2001 GA how long will it last?
My dads giving me his 2001 4dr GrandAm SE V6 for FREE.
Its got 167K on it no spoiler and its white...Im going to sell my 2005 sunfire and drive this Grand am untill it blows up. something tells me that will be coming soon...But its one owner and my dad has babied it never abused and always kept mechanically sound.
So you guys think this car will last at least another 40-50K? mind you the brakes were just done with new calipers, rotors and pads on the front and the drums got new shoes and machined..also new starter was put in a few months back. plus new front wheel bearings as well.

Aside from the crappy intake gaskets (3400) (which they no longer sell) they are great engines and dont hesitate to beat on yours.I swear the GM 60* V6 line was made with bulletproof internals.I had a beater grand prix with the 3100 and it had 467,xxx on the clock when I sold it to a friend who is still driving it today from port dover to toronto. The 4t60e auto is a good tranny but did not react well to the higher powered 3.4 DOHC.They are great cars search on club GP and look at the milage guys are getting on these cars with stock drivetrain.

Yeah from what I hear my buddys a goodwrench tech and it seems the intakes were overtorqed on the assembly line causeing the gasket to fail early. The new designed gaskets have small rings in them to prevent being "crushed" under torq.Damn detroit auto workers

^LOL now that u meantion it i just got the tranny flushed today and put in new red line tranny fluid. it shifts sooo much smoother it was shifting a little rough
but it boots pretty good and the gas mileage is decent...avg'ing about 450km a tank which is 53L. The bodys not in the greatest shape though definately could use new paint but im not putting any money into this car unless its to keep it running.
And i beleive the intake gaskets have been replaced twice already lol...im trying to find something aftermarket but no luck so far

So how come you assume it will "blow up" very soon? Still 16? Don't make the car pay for your age.
These "inferior and cheap quality" domestics (especially the GM 3.1 and 3.4's) will last up to 250K easy. All you will do is regular maintenance such as brakes and what not.
I've had one. It had close to 250K's & virtually no problems...the only problem was that I totalled it...I wanted to squeeze a healthy 300K out of that thing. It was well on its way of doing it too.

Regular maintenance will be done that parts in good hands...I mean its had its share of problems such as fuses, relays and the CD player doesnt work anymore...I was just curious thats all, i dont know about grand ams and 3400 series engines.

There was another one it that same issue from a Honda mechanic. Some lady brought a new Civic back because the drivers seat was stuck. He said she raised a huge fuss about it being a Honda, and WTF was the problem with the seat. Expeceted it to be fixed right away, BLAHBLAHBLAH. Any way the mechanic took it in, and had a look. Couldn't figure it out, so he removed the seat only to find a used condom jammed in the seat track. He put in a bag, and stapled it to the invoice. Said she came in in a huff, then went beet red, and paid for it and left.
