Heres a neat idea....

Or at least I hope so....

Ok...I have an auto and am in the process of making it look more like an m6. Just because I have too much free time . Going to shorten the stick and redo the console to make it look more like a manual. Also have the boot that came with my MOMO shifter ****. Thats not a problem. The problem is when other people use my car they wouldn't know what gear they were in unless they had it memorized like I do (I noticed a lot of people have to look down to know what gear they are in unfortunatly). I was thinking about maybe having a set of LEDs that show what gear they'er in. Something small and hidden in the dash or something. Any ideas? Am I crazy? Let me know.

Heres a pic of what I 'd like to do. Not exactly what I want to do, but you should get the idea. Only pic I could find of a Camaro dash.

BTW, whats up with the board lately? Too **** quiet!!

Also another idea I have is to take out the passenger air bag and have it flip up to unhide a laptop pc. That I could have monitoring the car or use it for working in the middle of nowhere . Possible,.. or too much work? I keep staring at that area and thinking of this idea. It's not doing me any good as is !

Thanks, archemedes, for the reply.

That looks cool, but I think thats for manual trans. I'm looking for one for autos. Let me do a search for this product and see if they make other ones...

*Edit* After investigating his page,.. he has a ver. two that might do what I want. I'll send him a email and see if he still sells them. *Edit*

Ahhh, was wondering about that. Because on the display it was only showing numbers. Don't want to know the gears, just where the car is at (park, reverse, drive, etc...).

Found this site! Looks to have EXACTLY what I need!! Now the hard part.... will it work on my car... and will I be able to install it ?!?! My knowledge of electronics is slim to none unfortunatly. To get an idea of my knowledge,... I tride hooking up led lights for under the dash and couldn't get them to light up after install. So I gave up . Hopefully this is for dummies !

Another..

Theres this one, but I like the LEDs in a row and not the number/letter system.

Dude if you have to ask why, you'r just not getting it! Just kidding . Hey it could be worse, at least I'm not the crazy guy trying to convert a coup to a conv. LOL.

Well after replacing the shifter **** and using the boot it came with, it just looks out of place with the light up panel sticking out from under the boot. I think removing the clutter and keeping it looking like a maual will make the whole package look nicer and complete it. The indicator is for those that borrow my car. Like my wife and friends. So I'd like to mount it somewhere behind the stering wheel or something. I dunno, I've had this idea floating around for about a year now (along with the "removing the passenger air bag" idea). Need to get on it sooner or later.

I'll try to get updated pics.

Ok heres some updated pics of it, now you can see how weird the whole thing looks.

And heres an update on my tail lights. Sorry no more Altezas . I'll miss em, but on the bright side I only spent ten bucks and another ten on shipping for em.
