Hate to say it, but stock Z's feel slow..

Today I fixed the GF's car, the best part GM ever developed and put into production, amazingly failed. The car was knocking REALLY bad under light load, thought perhaps wires, but nope, the opti and distributer were shot.

Well after swapping it out- which only took about an hour and a half- (yes I have done quite a few times and have gotten pretty good at it) I took the car out to see how it felt.

The car is a 94 Z, completely bone stock- all the way down to the screens on the MAF to the air intake system. I took it down the road and hopped on it. I had a friend with me and I thought perhaps there was something else wrong with the car. It seemed like it was lacking something. He said "I dunno, feels pretty fast to me." And as I drove it around some more, I realized that yes, it was running to its fullest potential.

I guess after drivin my car around and getting used to its power, everything else feels slow.. - not that a car that runs basically flat 14's stock is slow, but it sure did feel a little gutless..

On another note- I am lookin forward to the day I can take her car to either the track/dyno and take some baselines and do some bolt-ons there to see what kind of time/mph/power differences there are. Basic bolt-ons are pretty easy- I am just talkin stuff like cold-air, TB airfoil, 1LE elbow, underdrive ect. Stuff that you can do at the track.dyno without too much trouble. Ill keep everyone posted on what happens down the road.

Well, unless you've had a car like yours, or like one of my older streetrods,......a 14 second quarter mile is actually pretty slow. I understand when you think about a second and a half, it doesn't really seem like very much time,.....but when it comes to cars going down the track, the difference between a 14 sec. car & a 12.5 sec. car is huge.

Then if your lucky enough to own a low 11 sec. or high 10 sec. car,.....getting back into a 14 second car (like mine ) and driving it around, seems like you just waiting for the powerband to kick in.

I think since my buddy pussed out on me and I'm not getting the flame job on my car.......I'm gonna go ahead and get a PCM tune and a set of 3.73 gears for it by summer. At least that way I should be able to get it into the mid to low 13's if I take the subs and box out of the back, only run a 1/4 tank of gas and a set of slicks. (For those that are curious about removing the subs and box;....between the subs, the box and a 1/2 tank of gas.....it's close to 150 lbs less.)

To be honest- I have never ran it after I put on the blower, even on the other car. Before the blower, with the cam and other bolt-ons with no tune it was runnin flat 13's at around 108 mph. But with the blower I knew that the with the power it was making and the stock 10 bolt, with street tires it would have spun most of the way down the track and with slicks I would have been trailering it home.

The car had enough power to be an easy mid 11 second car, if the power could get to the ground. With the motor going in this car, slicks, I am hoping to possibly get into the 10's, but we shall see. It might not happen this summer, but if all goes well next summer should be 10's easily.

That will be killer to have all that power at any given moment......unlike spraying with a bottle,........and it will be a whole lot safer too.

You should have no problem getting into the 10's with the set up you're going with, especially now that you have the 9". Now you can slap some slicks on it and put the power where it needs to be........ON THE GROUND!
