How long do you leave wax, between applying it to buffing it?

Depends on wat you use, and how thick you put it on.. basically wait till the wax can basically be wiped off like chaulk dust..

Pretty much says it all. Do a test section if you are unsure (say rear quarter panel). Use a damp applicator, and apply thinly.(Thick means more work to remove, wasted product. If you can see it, that's good enough).

Upon removal for **most** waxes/sealants, it should wipe off clean, and with little to no real pressure. If it requires a quite a bit of elbow grease, then chances are you applied too thick, or the product hasn't hazed over enough yet.

That being said, some products are hard to remove no matter what you do. In these cases, you'll probably need some detailing spray to aid in the removal, and use two MF's. (I generally use one with low nap to 'break-down' the wax, and follow up with a plusher one to wipe up the remainder)

Usually instructions are on the back of the product.

But yes, leave it on till it starts hazing and looking like chalk.

DONT leave it on for too long. Usually 10-15min max.

Meguiars makes a Techwax that works very well and is easy to use. It's almost like a detail spray, spray on, wipe off.


If you have 3+ hours to spend detailing your car, you should invest in a Zaino full kit.

Nothing better than rubbing your car for a couple hours on a sunny day.

That being said, ALWAYS apply wax/detail products in the shade and not in direct sunlight

Zaino is a dedicated sealant, not wax. Furthermore, you DO leave zaino on for a bit more than 15.. (30mins usually).

As for a suggestion on a wax, Pinnacle Souveran Paste Wax, is arguably one of the favorites of Autopia. Deep, rich, and wet shine on dark colored cars. I prefer looks of a sealant on most bright colored cars. OP, what color is your car?

Thanks for the responses. Silver car, been using meguiars (not the nxt, but dark red bottle)...it leaves a nice shine but looking to change it up and try something else

Ah, it's hard to make a silver car look anywhere as good as a black! I personally would use a sealant for it's 'clarity' as some carnauba waxes would actually 'mute' the metallic flakes. I've seen the results of zaino personally, and the amount of flake pop is awesome--any quality sealant will do though.
