Headlights won't turn off!

I remember seeing a thread on this at one point but could not see it after 10 pages using searchword 'lights'

Anyway my problem today is...that's right you guessed it. My lights don't turn off.

I've pulled all the fuses off hoping the problem would correct itself. No luck.

I read somewhere in a electrical problem thread that the cause might be the alt fuse. I've check it and seems to be fine.

To tie in with the current problem my car seems to idle bad. It starts at 800rpm then swings down to 100 then springs back to 500-800rpm.

The volt meter on my car did not reach 14. Was swinging back and forth from 10-13.

The car was running perfect as of this mourning and occurred about 3 hours ago.

I've tried 1000q and VFaq and could not find anything to specific.

N

P.S. I had a new alt installed about 3-4 weeks ago.

Have you checked the connector for the headlight bulbs? Are they gettin the power when the car is off?? If so.. pending on your car ( if it has Lamp Control Module / Twilight sentinel auto light.. watever each manufacturer calls it ) Its some kinda relay issue somewhere

If there's no power going to the connector.. but when you put the bulb back in if the light comes on.. something might be grounding to and or around the headlight assembly..

But just guessing.. check the easiest thing first.

P.S.
I"m assuming you're refering to the lights won't go off when the car is off? IF thats true.. I doubt it'll be alternator related as there's no kind of feedback from an idle alternator that would affect your headlights not going off.

But as crappy pay.. I mean Crazy-aie... err crazyae says.. make model and trim would be great to know to start with

Sounds like a ground issue IMO...

check all ground... motor, chassis, battery, etc...

As for the headlights, they usually go through a relay, pull the relay and they'll probably go off..

Alright well what lights are we talking about? DRL lights? Your basicaly system would consist of a fuse, relay, switch, possible module. I would recommend getting a service manual and finding a wiring diamgram in the back of it. This will give you a diagram of everything involved in your system. If i have some spare time i might look it up for you. Best way to start would to test the most obvious and easy to reach itemas. I can;t really tell you much more as i am not sure which lights are staying on. More information would be great!
