July GTG Idea's

Ok guys tell me what you'd like to see at the GTG. By no means can I promise they'll happen and please remember. I'm paying for everything out of my own pocket.

Here's what I want to see happen myself:
Car Show
Portable Dyno
Burnout Contest if they'll let us
Awards - Very few but I'd like Best Of Show and Most HP(for the dyno)
Raffles (I'm going to try to get speed shops to donate stuff)
For sure I'll have free soda and water for everyone but if they don't let me bring food in from outside there won't be any free food because I can't put up that much money myself.

For the raffles I would like to do something where everyone puts in like $5 or so and then we draw a winner with the money going to "Make A Wish". They do some great stuff and I know the people in charge of the WI chapter of it as well.

Remember, I want to start a car show series so we need the first one to be very sucessful if there's any hope of it happening. Personally I'd like to have the largest show here in Kenosha every year since there isn't anything else like it in the area but then we can have other show's in the Chicago and Milwaukee area's.

mxracerbrian 01-17-2007 10:35 PM

sounds awesome chad! this is news to me...what does GTG mean?

paarman97maro 01-17-2007 10:57 PM

get together.

Personally all I expect from you is just the plain carshow. Thats lot of pay out of pocket, so I dont have high expectations.

mxracerbrian 01-17-2007 11:00 PM

is this something that just you are putting on chad? if so thats crazy to have so much there. you shouldnt have to go broke to have a lil fun

Jpack 01-17-2007 11:10 PM

Don't matter to me Chad. I'll show up whatever it is. No expectations from me, unless you want to slap me a check for the motor mods going on this year for me. LOL

Yup it's all out of pocket. Basicly it's just cutting into the mod fund.

I really want this to become THE car show people look forward to each year. Plus I'm hoping in the future it'll become large enough that I'll be able to get sponsers signed up that'll offset the costs involved. Or it'll help enough people learn about ProjectCamaro.com including sponsers that'll then decide to advertise here.

Adric 01-17-2007 11:35 PM

Ill be there unless I die before then.

Fade 2 Black 01-17-2007 11:38 PM

Hey Chad, try BCM.. You'll probably get alot more people to come and donate some things also... What about MFBA too?

Mike Jones 01-17-2007 11:42 PM

I'm going to speed shops to see if they have anything to donate. If I go to another local club they'll try to take over.

I don't even know what they'd donate anyways.

That I really don't care for BCM. As a whole the member's seem to be a bunch of retards.

I know you're joking but there's a HUGE difference. They are always attacking each other and going off on each other. They had a small GTG and one of the member's sued the guy putting it on, another guy had money stolen out of his truck at the same GTG. If that's the kind of people that are over there then I don't want to know them.

Werd. For both clubs.
I remember once early at BCM (I was there at the beginning when it was fbodyforums, like member number 18 or something) they were making fun of mfba for a several hundred post thread about declawing your cat. Now you can't tell the difference between the two, except that BCM wants everybody to bring their front-wheel-drives to events, and mfba wants everybody to bring their vettes, magnums and minivans to participate in F-body events.

Question: IF some funding arrangements were made to produce some food supply like ground beef for burgers, chicken, etc, would there be volunteers to grill/cook the food? would a grill be present or available? Portable one? either gas, charcoal, or electric? Or would all food need to be prepared off-site?

Got a date yet?

97z2801ss 01-18-2007 02:05 PM

Jpack 01-18-2007 05:08 PM

Thank You!!!

I feel so bad for Damon and all the crap he deals with trying to put on the spring and fall cruises.

It's going to be July 14th I'm just finalizing the details with the lot rental. I'll make a new post about it.
The food will probably be pizza that's already cooked. I'm thinking about maybe doing something where people can bring food and I'll set up some grills and we'll cook the food they bring. But this is all up to DairlyLand to see if they'll allow us to bring outside food in.

Nope NIFBA is an awesome club and will remain that way, the people involved are much better than any other club.

I try to help out with the route scouting, prep, break planning, traffic management, coordination and mapping to ease his workload and I have fun doing it. But the club crap just rips the enjoyment out of your bones. I try to help out on the event day also, but the club is a repellant. Some of the council members have been reversing course and correcting some things now.

When you get details about grills, let us know. I don't think you've been to the F-Body & Firehawk BBQ in Waupun - I state that no money can be paid, but if you must you can bring a dish to pass - I'm amazed at how much salads, desserts, etc people bring, even tho I specify none is required. I've been told that nobody leaves hungry.

Itsa6 - you really should try to make the Spring Cruise. The Cruise Leader lives in Janesville, and I usually just rent a room at Motel 6 for Fri night preceding and Sat night following the cruise. The Janesville Caravan departs about 7am, and you can just convoy with them to the starting point. All you would have to do is drive to Janesville (at the IL/WI border) on Fri night. The Spring Cruise has lots of very fun roads, and becomes more user-friendly each year.

I meant I felt bad for Damon because of the crap he has to put up with. I know the two of you are the ones that do it and you guys do a GREAT job!! It is so well organized and orchastrated(sp) it just makes it a completely blast. I can't wait for the spring cruise, I think my wife will be coming with me this year.

I will be sure to post up whenever new information comes.

You're right I haven't been to that GTG. So you guys set up grills and then say bring your own food if you want something to eat?

I knew what you meant. I was saying that the club crap aspect drains the fun part out of the experience, even though I have a bunch of fun helping out (you should see the roads that are NOT included in each route each year - one year during a "rain-out cruise" the participants voted on which fun & scenic routes to include on our drive, and some are beyond the level of safety we prefer - but I know them. :D :p)

Here is a link to last year's BBQ posting:
http://messageboard.firehawk.org/viewtopic.php?t=6485

While in Southern California I got in the habit of throwing parties/BBQs regularly - my last pad I split with 2 friends we averaged 6 events per month - and we don't charge anything, so this is my version/template of a party, and until this year I had no house in WI.
So I would plan to bring the meats - ground beef, chicken parts, some brats & wieners, ribeyes, plus beans and condiments and chips, and of course plenty of sodas. Whatever was left over would be for me to whittle through as leftovers. Additionally, any event using the name "Firehawk" is prohibited from allowing any fees, covers, charges, etc - which is more than fine with me. However, I was always surprised by how much various foods were brought by others. I would bring a modicum of cookies or something, but the desserts brought by others was always far more popular.
I was thinking that for you, you might start with a small "starter fund" of foods. Get all your condiments, cutlery & plates & cups (liter sodas and punch/lemonade are very cheap, yet popular on a hot day - first thing to deplete last bBQ was the pink lemonade from Country Time) ahead of time. Then, day before or day of, start off with a certain amount of meats, like $50 or $100. You could put out a "food fund" jar or coffee can, and when the first batch of food runs low, let some helper run to the store for more chicken and beef. If you get thingsd more solidly planned, some of us might help infuse more "starter fund" or just outright fund this aspect of your show.
Get it? Make sense? I'd hate for people to leave your show just because they're hungry or thristy or don't want to pay $5 for a hot dog, like some shows are. If they want to leave becuase they need cigarettes, that's OK with me.

So, the important details to iron out are: grills allowed? have grills, couple tables for supplies & condiments, hopefully a tent or awning over the food (lettuce, mayo, salads spoil quick in the sun), and a volunteer to cook - very important!! Once that info is established and arranged, let us know.

Mike Jones 01-19-2007 10:15 AM

Thank you for the GREAT information! I really love those idea's.

69z-28 01-19-2007 10:48 AM

spring and fall cruise FTW. i went on the spring cruis last year i think and it was fricken sweet! beautiful day and great weather. people were all cool too.

02hawk796 01-22-2007 02:59 AM

I also forgot to mention, for your event:
I would suggest NOT mentioning free food for your event. I did for the BBQ, but you're in the city area. Avoid mentioning free food in the ads or banners. It suonds like you had already planned on saying "free sodas or beverages" or similar, which is reasonable. If asked or pressed, just say "food will be available on premises" if that actualy is the case. Let the free food part be a pleasant surprise (donations accepted in your copffee can or whatever). This will help keep the focus on the cars, and keep the food moochers to a minimum. If you want to leak to the show entrants that they get free food, maybe that would work, but it's better for it to be a pleasant surprise.
Make sense?

Believe it or not, some people keep mentioning to me during various Cruises "You sound like you've done this before".
I also should have said the whole thread in that link is worth reading, for an overview of what went well, and not. reading the threads in for the '04, '03 BBQs also might give an accurate vibe - also under Events forum at Firehawk.org. Also, in some pics you can see the food tables at the left rear of the building. If you have questions, ask.
Since I've learned from ommission, please remember to include sauerkraut if serving hotdogs or brats (or polish sausage).
Also, start rounding up large coolers/ice chests early, for gobs of ice, sodas, punch/lemonade, salads, spare condiments.
If you want a list of my prep/to do's, let me know and I'll look for them.
It also occurred to me that somebody's rugrat around here needs a job to stay out of trouble - have some kids run a lemonade stand for you. I'm sure Boy Scouts or Girl Scouts would be thrilled, if nobody else. Saves you one more thing to keep track of.

Did you skip out at the Subway stop?
You really should try the afternoon portion. The morning used to be the highlight of the route, but since '04 the afternoon portion really grabs your attention - and remember to bring your camera and vidcam. The route is now more user-friendly than in years past, and the morning is sort of the "warm-up" for the twisty segments.

02hawk796 01-23-2007 04:51 AM

I should have mentioned that in place of ice chests, I did use some of those 60 Qt storage tubs for like $6 at kmart or wherever, and they worked fine.
I'll be willing to bet your cups of pink lemonade move faster than your most popular soda (usually Mt Dew), and stay away from diet sodas/drinks if you can. The powered Country Time on sale makes 3 gallons for about $3.

niceroc 01-23-2007 07:56 PM

country time FTW

i beleive you might have been the one to give my dad the directions to the highway, possibly....?lol either way, im staying the whole time next cruise im on. they are a blast.

I think that was me. The Subway is actually farther away from your home than the ending point, but the time was best for you. Also, the afternoon route crosses over major highways/expressways 7 times, so those are also easy departure points if time becomes an issue.

Thank you for the idea's. I hate lemonade so I never would have thought of that. I love the idea since it'll save me a good amount of money.

Lemonade is one thing. PINK Lemonade is a whole different ballgame. When you see a can of Country Time PINK Lemonade sometime, just try it.
The regular lemonade had plenty left at the BBQ. I loaded up on Pink Lemonade because I wanted to have a bunch to take home. I ended up with 2 cans, and had to freeze my arm off to dig them out of the bottom of the tub.
Or try it at the movie theater. There are also some very tasty punches and fruit combination drinks in gallon jugs that work well on hot days.
The key thing is, if you get somebody to run the food/beverage things on auto-pilot, that's more that you don't have to worry about, but keeps show participants happy.
Keep in mind that plastic/styrofaom cups will be used around the food area a lot, but for wandering around between cars, maybe have lids available to reduce spillage/splatter, and some will prefer cans for this reason, and because they have can cozies or whatever.

Count me in for the GTG Chad and if I can assist you in anyway just let me know.
