New Street Racing Legislation
 

Hi guys. Im a university student. Im writing a paper on how the new street racing legislation that the government is enacting is too harsh. I just wanted some of your guys' opinions as to what you think might happen if this new legislation is passed.

Here's the break down of everything:

Right now, theres no specific law in Canada that targets any type of street racing - whether it be on cars or bikes. Harper's plan is to change the current sentences for dangerous driving from usually about 10 years in jail to 14 years or lifetime imprisonment, based on whether you kill someone or not. (If you kill someone while driving dangerously, you'll go to jail for life).

In California, they have, what I think are some better rules, like they take away your bike or car for a week, fine you up to $1,000, where as Ontario is thinking of fining you up to $10,000!!!.

Let me know what you guys think. Would you run away from the cops, which would basically mean that you'd end up street racing, if you knew that if you got caught, you'd have to pay a $10,000 fine and your bike or car would be crushed???

Let me know what changes you think should be made to the legislation, or what better laws they could implement. For example, maybe if they set aside the roads once a month or so for racers to race on, or a private track or road to have races on???

Hmm pull over and pay $10000++crushed car, lol whos gunna stop. Hes stupid for having the same fines for schoolzones, streets and highways because doing 140 km/h on 100zone isnt the same as 80 in a 40 zone, then u have one more :retard: traffic cop waiting at an onramp rofl.

I will honestly say that from my own personal experience that the stiffer penalties for street racing led me to take my racing to the track. For me the track is safer, more challenging, and more fun. However, it seems that the interest in drag racing at the track appears to be dropping off a little bit. Drag racing attendance at CSCS is down a bit compared to previous years. I wouldn't be so quick to say that more people are racing on the street though. The hot new interest in drifting is probably part of what has led to a bit less interest in drag racing. My overall perception is that there are far less street racing participants in the GTA today than there were a few short years ago. Something is working... Is it the enforcement of stiffer penalties... I would have to answer "yes". Although this is just my opinion. Good luck with your course.

I love Canada, been here for 10 years, but Im getting the **** out of here as soon as i can. The amount of control the media and police have over the population is ridiculous, when people just come here it just baffles them, the population is scared of their government. Thats whats going to bring the downfall of democracy and western civilization as a whole.

Taking a car away for street racing, its just ****ing retarded I'm sorry. Who the **** passed this .

I think the mto and moe sitting outside the track handing out fines the last few years has kept allot of people away.

Very good point, I forgot about that. I couldn't agree more. The police want us to take racing off the streets but they regularly set up to trap us on the way to or from the track. To me that is just plain BS. Whoever came up with that idea is a snake in the grass...

I think the new law are GAY GAY GAY. They make no sense. Most of the people that get in street racing related accidents, are bone stock cars. They want to target cars with modifications, because they only think they do the mod's to street race. They dont realize that the people that put a lot of there money into there rides, dont take the chance of getting busted for street racing.

Which brings me to my point, that has come up many times. WHATS GONNA STOP SOMEONE FROM STREET RACING IN A MINIVAN, BEAT UP SENTRA, ECT. lol

BTW if adding 50 or 100 WHP to a car that came with 140hp-200hp stock is sooooo illegal. What about 500hp corvettes, Vipers, etc shouldnt there be some done about that?????????................... Yes i know nothing is gonna be done about that.

Off topic, but some what related:

Those corvettes, vipers, or any V8 out there, are pretty loud. But howcome adding a aftermarket exhaust to a honda is sooooo illegal. O yeah and the SRT-4 exhaust is basically straight pipes, WTF.

Regarding the CSCS blitz's. I heard TMP put a stop to that, didnt see any cops on the way to the June event. Anyone see anything???????


The closing of roads idea would be the worst thing. Cops would be able to target cars with mod's sooooo much easier.

Its not so much about running away but rather the fact that the new laws target modified vehicles opposed to stock performance cars (i.e srt4's, vettes and so on). It doesn't make sense to encourage people to not street race but then fine them at the track for stupid meaningless mods.

They may have eased up on that a bit.
I know the track manager has complained in the past with no results. Maybe it finally got through to some one that it was promoting street racing more than preventing it.
It wasn`t just import events they were blitzing. The OSCA and CFSC have been targeted in the past along with regular racing.
Weather or not they are still doing this, the word is still out that they may be there and that will keep people away.

The word to describe it is...FRUSTRATED. I enjoy modifying my car. In fact I'm passionate about it. I love motor sports. You could say I'm passsionate about that too. But it is all about the individual driving the car rather than the car itself. Regardless of how fast my car may/may not be, when Jim Bob pulls up beside me and starts revving his Buick, you know what I do? I wait for the light to go green and give him a three count before I even start moving. By then he's already speeding through the intersection, and I'm left well behind wishing there was a cop to see it. Hasn't been one to see it yet. However to add insult to injury, cops have been there as I was leaving a gas station. Pulled over because my car was lowered. (It is, but 1.25 inches, I have over 2 inches of wheel gap.) Again, like I said, FRUSTRATED.

in the last 8 years in canada 34 people have been killed due to street racing, This year alone in TORONTO only 50 people have been killed with over 150 people being hurt in shootings.

Not to mention cocain being on the rise.

But I guess as long as your son or daughter are safe on the road from street racers the world is a perfect place even though they do rip after rip of coke day in and day out.

I disagree with these laws big time. How about that new one if you are going faster then 50 over you are now street racing regardless if there is another car or not. I like what someone else mentioned in another thread "what am I racing....The wind?"

They are putting the focus on anything that young males enjoy it seems. Anything to make us look like the bad guys of society.

its very sad. canada says its a free nation. its not, there controlling our ppl more than ever. the fact 34 ppl die in street racing, and about 115,000 accidents r from drunk driving. what r they going to to with drunk drinking?

i say have instead of the normal .08 for alcohol with a G licence, have 0 percent! to stop ppl from drinking and driving all together! and have a stiffer penalty. but for some reason, nothing has been done about it. they can make rules about street racing from faux facts, but no do anything about drunk driving at all. very very weird.

as was stated with stock vehicles in accidents. it said 90% of the accidents r from ppl who aren't from Canada in the first place (students on vias, immigrants etc etc). its ppl who arent even born here and the government is listening. i just don't understand this country sometimes. gov gives themselves a 40,000 dollar pay increase and spends more money worrying about that issue then real issues.
