Spring Cruise

Cruises should be just that....cruises, waiting when someone gets caught somewhere and only using such speeds when its known everyone can keep up and not risk getting into an accident or getting arrested....... 75+ cars going 100 mph and one person slamming on the brakes = wreck. not something iw ant to be a part of. which is why i loved that cruise i went on in stl. only time excessive speeds were reached was on the interstate/expressway and plenty of notice by the lead car was given to slow down.
Many, many people have had breakdowns during the cruises, and the group stops for them. At MFBA, one member changed his name to "lugnuts" after all 5 of his lugnuts came off his rear wheel, and we helped him find them along the last mile of road, and the group waited at a planned regrouping spot. He stayed with us for another 5 hours, until he had some carb problems and decided he would bow out (we got him next to an Interstate Hwy) - that being the only time I know of that a car was left on the route. (we went back to check on him, he was gone 1/2 hour later). Another time, a car was left at a Stop, and the driver rode along in another car, and was ferried back to his car. Breakdowns, potty breaks, fuel needs are planned for, and those with radios can get in touch with cruise leaders and coordinators at any time.
Last spring, a 79 Z28 had a power steering pump come off, and several in the group stopped and helped wire it back onto the frame, and he kept along the cruise until the route passed about 15 min from his house - and those that helped were more pumped about doing that roadside repair than the rest of the day.
And let me clearly state, that the participants from out of state are not really expected to know the back roads which are used, and maps and directions are provided on the website, so much advanced planning and research can be done by anybody who wants to. However, the Spring Cruise also attracts people from Milwaukee who have never ventured off of Hwy 100, and cannot find their way to the meeting spot 15 miles away (right off Interstate 94) even with clear directions.

I'm not "there", but I'll be there on May 20th.
At the risk of SOMEBODY calling me picky, there actually are Stoplights on the normal route of the Fall Cruise.
At the Meeting Spot, exiting. Then in Roscoe, IL. Then in Mt Horeb, WI. Then in New Glarus. Then 3 or 4 in Janesville (getting to Hooters).
But these are all known by the planners in advance, and regrouping is planned, so that nobody is left behind.
The Spring Cruise also has Stoplights. This year's route is not finalized, but according to recent versions, there is a light at the meeting spot, exiting. Then one at Rochester, and a righ turn at one in East Troy, then 3 in Delafield, and one in Hartford (right turn). The whole afternoon is free of them.
So spring and Fall are about equal in that regard.
Also, the miles are about equal, too. But the Fall Cruise has many more curves at 55mph, and the Spring has many, many more twisties under 30mph. So the Spring route might seem longer.
I think I burn about the same amount of fuel on each.

Plus they block off roads if there's an intersection so no one will get left behind.

The Cruise passes through East Troy and has a regroup spot planned, but you'd need to claim a potty break to have time to top-off there.
It's almost guaranteed that everybody will need to fill up at Waucosta (or a place nearby we might use instead).
For those who need more frequent fill-ups, just let the leaders know, and fueling stops can easily be planned - but they're Regas.

Total of 5 traffic lights, 2 of them right turns, and all before noon. Then 4-5 hours of no traffic lights.
Hey, Madison Dave, that Black Trans Am I told you about, for sale last year - he says he's coming along for this cruise. His T/A will be going into a museum in a few months.
