Tires?

What kinda tires is everyone running this year at the track? and on the street?

Low-Low 03-31-2005 11:48 PM

4 cylinder 5.0....damn that must be some stroker kit.

SirChirpAlot 04-01-2005 12:45 AM

anything with tread on the street.
ET drags and ET streets at the track.

hahahaha 347 stroker actually

Get-U-$um 04-03-2005 07:19 PM

347? Better carry a couple cases of oil in the trunk. You'll be needing it.

Stang6589 04-03-2005 07:25 PM

BFG's just the Radial T/A's the car is bone stock. They work for me.
I can get them to hook anywhere anytime.

Get-U-$um 04-03-2005 07:57 PM

Dunlop GT Qualifiers are the hardest hooking radial next to actual drag radials. FYI.

Why???

I'd advise against the Dunlop GT Qualifiers, I had a set on my SS for a while and they're ok for the first year or so of use, then they go rock hard and traction goes to hell.

supra_DT 04-04-2005 08:18 PM

if you need spare parts for your stroker I have some eagle rods/ross pistons and JE pins :)

Been there when I had my stang back in the day. Good luck with the new setup. I ran a 10.5 straight motor on my 347 setup (1st time out).

That just means you gotta wear out a pair of tires every 6 months :thumbsup

347s put the rod too far up the piston and it gets into the rings. Everyone knows this. Buy a 4" stroke crank and build a 408. These days 427 and even 454 small blocks are common. Build a 408, or a 331. But not an oil burnin 347. Itll run good for about 2500 miles....thats it.

87Shelbyz_Turbo 04-05-2005 08:11 PM

Set of han kook 405 performance tires They work good on my car

supra_DT 04-05-2005 09:15 PM

I have the Hankook K104 Ventus Sport on my car and they suck for traction. They are Y speed rated (300+ kms/hr) but I find they don't hook well from a dig. For the stang my choice would be:

radial - BFG drag radial
DOT street tire - MT ET Street

For a low $$ radial the Kumho Ecsta's aren't bad at all. I found they worked better (traction wise) than the hankooks which I have now.

For a torque monster that you'll have, any standard radial tire would be pretty much useless. It all depends on how you drive your car and for what purpose you want the tires for (i.e. handling vs straight line traction)

Get-U-$um 04-17-2005 05:13 PM

Bridgestone Potenza S03 Pole Positions. Based on F1 Tire. Not Cheap. 425.00 a tire. But feels like your driving an indy car when you get heat into them.

mazdubber 04-18-2005 10:13 PM

Yoko A032R's or Kumho Victoracers. Maybe I'll try both. I expect to go through about 3 sets of tires this year.

good info,

331 is where its at for drivability and power, good compromise and reliability

Get-U-$um 04-19-2005 10:46 PM

DSS actually has a good piston for 347 so they dont burn oil but it doesnt matter. The rod to stroke ratio is a joke...331 is perfect for a screamin streeter. Hell even a .30 over 306 is better than a 347. 408 gets into a 4" stroke..bit much if you wanna go over 5500 RPM. If you want a big block build one..heads flow waaaay better.
