Wyoming.....

So, I'm stuck in Wy for the next two months (been here for two already) and it would be a really nice place except for the WIND!!!! I'm in South Central, in Rawlins. I'm from southern cal, so this was a huge shock for me. My car really hates it here too. I found out all about chains and tensioners, black ice, and the disadvantage of a driving a rear wheel drive stick in snow. Lucky me!! What I would like to know is, how the hell do all the other rear wheel drives get around in this place? My problem is, I've went through about five sets of chains so far (between the 02 and the 97), they just keep busting off. Off course they aren't real chains, they are cable chains. I try my best not so spin the tires, but its damn near impossible in the 97 (its the manual, 02 is automatic and does much better). I make sure the tensioners are tight and I go slow (so hard to do). So, now the 97 just sits in front of the house covered in snow, looking pathetic. Any tips from those of you who have more experience in this kind of weather? It would be greatly appreciated. Thanx.

2-4 sand bags in the back, and snow tires. Thats all I ever needed, handled like a beauty.

what are you doing out in wyoming?

I just drove my car as is, never switched the wheels or put sandbags in the rear although I'm sure it'd help.

You just have to drive more carefully and smarter and that's it.

Why am I in Wy, I ask myself that everyday. Actually, my husband is a pipeliner and there is a pipeline going in here. But it should be done in about two months and then we get to go home for good. I guess I just have to stick it out until then

I have been blown off I80 going 20 mph!! That whole area is TERRIBLE for ice!! They clean the roads and the next day the ice is back because of the winds.:banghead: Alot of truckers will come down into Colorado, just to avoid that interstate.

Being from So Cal, not sure if you've had much experience with snow and ice, but just take it slow and feel better that people who deal with it every year dread going anywhere near there!

PS. Tell your husband thanks for the pipeline that will help keep me busy for years to come, lol. I work on the drilling rigs as a wellsite supervisor.

It is really bad here, like I said before, its that damn wind that keeps everything so cold and icy. The plows run 24/7 but it doesnt really seem to do much good because while they are plowing, the wind just blows the snow right back. I have never had experience with driving in snow or ice before but I've learned quite a bit. I just go really really slow all the time. But I guess thats ok because that means everyone else can just get a better look at my car . We were in Ogallala, Ne just before this on the pipeline that was there, it went down into Colorado too. We thought we were lucky to get out of there before the snow hit, little did we know........ It is nice to know that we aren't the only ones who find this place difficult. I have to say though, the people are very nice and so are the cops!
