Question caught by red light camera - 0.8 seconds

Hi everyone, I've been checking this forum for awhile, but it's only now that I have something to post.

Just wondering what I (well, my sis) should do in this situation...

My sis got her car photo taken by a red light camera earlier this month at the birchmount/steeles intersection for running a red light. she was going at 63km/hour at the time (speed limit is 60) and "ran" the red light by 0.8 seconds. (0.1 seconds passed as she first touched the intersection). The photos show her license plate and her car passing the intersection with the red light overhead. The fine is $180.

By definition, she ran a red light. But she wasnt speeding, and it had been 0.1 seconds since the red light was on when she first entered the intersection.

Is there a way to appeal this? Or at least appeal for a lesser fine?

Thanks.

Thumbs up Red Light Ticket

you could always file for a court date to have the fine lowered, but you have to consider if you take a day off work to file it, you loose out on more money than the fine amoutn anyway. the red light camera tickets are only monetary, so there are no demerit points and it wont affect her licence, so hiring someone to fight it is not really necissary. it will cost more for someone to attend that the ticket fine itself.

kmparalegal.com - "take the ticket to the court house and see if they will lower the fine" -yes this sounds like a good idea even if they lower it to half you saved yourself 90 dollars why not- why give them the satisfaction that light may or may not have been calibrated properly-and yes slow down at intersections the lights are there for everyones safty. thanks kmparalegal.com
