Damn my step van I use for work has a K and N air filter in it. Boy that makes that 6.5 l non turbo GM diesel really move. I bet it shaved .25 sec off my 10 mintue 0 to 60 time. I guess I can't drive it tomorrow.

Where the hell do you draw the line? One of the managers has 64 Impala with a new 350ci crate motor in it, because the old 289 was ed. I guess he can't drive it any more.

im guessing its like stage 3 turbo's, nitrous oxide hook-ups/tanks etc. I doubt they can ACTUALLY impound your car if its modified for speed with all the legal parts.

“Since 1999, 29 people have been killed in the Greater Toronto Area, as a direct result of street racing activities.”

When someone dies as a direct result of someones actions of course it's a sad affair, but at the same time it's like 6 ppl a year. I'm not trying to play down the number but if you look at the hassle modded cars get and the sheer amount of money and manpower they are using to solve this.(Of course i dont have any figures off the top of my head but when you think of the cost of programs like ERASE and PACER)

Just seems like it's a little overboard when other crimes are more impacting or when guys like thishttp://www.baitcar.com/videos/oncoming
(Between the years 1997 and 2004, he had been charged with 123 criminal offences.) are still allowed to roam the streets committing offences

I read the article, it is nothing new.......so don't get all excited. If I'm reading correctly between the lines....police will be using helicopters and unmarked vehicles for this initiative. Hence the reason is to catch drivers being EXTRA stupid. ie driving Carelessly (HTA) or Dangerous Driving (CC)

This is where the "impound" area is from.....
Under the Highway Traffic Act Careless Driving and Dangerous Driving (CC) is arrestable offence and under HTA sec 217(4) The vehicle can be detained until disposition of the case for an arrest under the HTA or Criminal Code of Canada. To get the vehicle back the defendant or accused has to apply to the Justice of the peace to which a security (money) has to be put down in the amount determined by the JP. Also all storage costs are the responsibility of the owner HTA 217(5)

SO NOTHING NEW at all, keep on driving normal...no worries

Yeah so I guess Dinan 3 series, M3's AMG cars, Lingenfelters, SVT's, etc. should be targeted also. What is the difference? Sure sure of these tuner cars might be better built than some of the VW, Hondas, etc that are out there, but who makes the call. Do we just ditch all our cars and buy Honda insights, and Mercedes SMART cars just to make everyone happy? Well I say THAT!!!! I built my car to express myself and if they don't like that to ing bad.

Can someone please explain how a 300hp 2100lb civic is equal to the 680 hp 3250lb nova my dad had growing up? Honestly, there is no comparison due to the strict emissions laws that manufacturers have to comply to today.

They should start by making a mandatory suspension to ANYBODY who has EVER attended an AA meeting - that would save you WAY more than 4.14 deaths that take place each year due to alleged street racing.

And at what point is something considered street racing. I can think of that huge accident a few years back on the 404 where two idiots were weaving in and out of traffic at like 190 km/h and they crashed causing three deaths. That is not 'organized' street racing, its spur of the moment stupidity.

And they call honda's 'annoying little cars' - okay we may all prefer the sound of a finely tuned engine over a stock honda with a grape-fruit launcher on the end of the exhaust - but I know that everytime I hear a loud exhaust I am ALWAYS turning around to see what car it is attached to. I love hearing that one car standing out over the drone of everyone else on the road.

Just my 2 cents.

There is another problem. Nobody looks at the quality of the cars out there on the streets now either. Tell me that a car like that old Nova, or an 80's Camaro, or GN or Vette, or whatever is going to handle as good, brake as good or be as good on emissions as what we are all driving. And I fully agree with BULLET. Any body caught drunk driving should be banned from the road. Never mind suspensions. I'm not saying that I never used to street race. when I first started driving, I used to have my Mom's car sideways more often than it was straight. If anyone ever goes to Canatara Park in Sarnia, all those stupid wooden posts are there because of me and my best friend one winter a long time ago, driving in around the trees and on the beach. But lets be honest. We did not start street racing. our parents didn't start it either. It started with the building of the second car. And it is always going to be there. If they try to take high performance cars off the road, I guess we'll all be racing our SMART cars and INSIGHTS agianst each other, and maybe then they'll be happy.

deaths?

What a waste of tax payers money! Spending time targeting and ticketing cars that are modded. Because there MIGHT an acident. Frig, smoking kills more than 29 people a year. Is that their argument. What a joke. That's lame. I think its a cash grab, they get the ticket revenue and the insurance company gets the money from the increase in your premiums! What's next photo radar(again)? The government even gets the tax when you buy the parts too!!! Don't be fooled, it's not for your safety. It's for your money.
