Bring boxing gloves.

The cop didn't do anything unreasonable in that stop. Look it up in the HTA 82.(1)
Inspections, unsafe vehicles

Examination of vehicle

(2) Every police officer and every officer appointed for the purpose of carrying out the provisions of this Act may require the driver of any motor vehicle or motor assisted bicycle to stop, move the vehicle to a safe location as directed by the police officer or officer and submit the vehicle, together with its equipment and any vehicle drawn by it, to the examinations and tests that the police officer or officer may consider expedient. 1999, c. 12, Sched. R, s. 14.

so your bitching because your horn didn't work and you were speeding and he gave you a ticket for it?

Stop being a baby, the cop didn't do anything wrong

If the cop was descent, he would have given you a $10 "fix-it" ticket. He didn't do that so he was a jerk. I'm sick of seeing all the COPS on this board jump down everyones' throat. There is a very sinister movement towards maximum citations. The cops have completely separated themselves from "the common man" and have started some sort of competition to see who can write the most tickets. The only way to stop this immoral activity is to plead NOT-GUILTY to every ticket in an attempt to clog an already over-burdened court-house.

Start writing tickets for truly DANGEROUS driving and you'll gain the respect of the general public.

P.S. I was once stopped by a cop who had a headlight burned out... Next time, I'm charging HIM with a saftey violation!!!!!

Maybe if the "hero" of the story had not ALSO been pulled over for doing 74 in a 50, the cop might have been willing to give a repair notice for the horn. If you give a cop cause to stop you for an offence, you also give cause for that cop to nail you for anything else they find wrong with you or your car. In for a penny, in for a pound, as they say.

That doesn't make the cop a jerk. That just makes you a deserving target for further scrutiny.

So now the guy has TWO tickets on record. His insurance company will see this and double his rates for the next three years. This could quite easily cost him $5000 or more by the end of it. But you (..winger) feel thats appropriate because he did the unbelievable speed of 74 in a 50. You don't even know about road conditions, lighting, traffic patterns, etc. but you slam the guy as a menace to society (by agreeing with the horn ticket).

I would have no problem here if the results of these (possibly) trivial infractions had less of a financial impact. The day will come when all cruisers have cameras which will film dangerous driving. Then there will be no disputes over tickets. Until then... get a good Radar Detector! (Bell STI Driver)

Given that a 50 kmph zone can often mean a residential zone with narrow streets with cars parked on the side of that street, children playing, people pulling out of driveways, and all the other things that happen on residential streets, that 74 in a 50 could well have been a considerable menace to society.

By not having a working horn, there would have been no way to warn a child stepping out on the street or riding a bike in the street that you were blasting up their otherwise quiet residential street at 1-1/2 times the speed limit. What was that youw ere saying about "menace to society"?

There are certain obligations and responsibilities involved in owning and operating a motor vehicle. They are in place to ensure the greater public interest is met, and you are expected to be aware of them as a condition of owning and operating that vehicle. If you can't meet them, you get tickets. What could be fairer?

Gwing I gotta say man thanks for posting . I find it hilarious how you come on and do 5 -6 replies about how Nastyz and supraguy are racists , then come on , totally on the other end of the scale with your own shineing( sp ) light of propoganda about how cops are gods . You upset a bunch of guys , but you actually make me laff. Thanks .
and for Kenr , buddy didnt anyone tell you ??. Are you New to this area of Ontario?? Wanna know a secret ??. I,ve got friends who live in Bradford. I,ve driven thru that area since like 1979 . Bradford cops are in their own little world . I think they,re still an OPP outfit. Next time your in Bford stop at ten houses and ask what people think , 4 outta ten will say the cops in Bford are dicks . Same goes for Alliston cops , watch your azz there also..77.

I agree. gldwngr, you're a funny guy. You show me 5 cops that NEVER go over the speed limit when they're off duty, and I'll show you 1000 that do. You want to try and convince us that you're one of the 5? Good luck.

Everyone speeds. Drop the 'holier than thou' attitude and get over it.

Morons who race down streets like Young Street at high speed deserve every penalty the law can throw at them - you'll get no argument from me on that point. But that doesn't mean you string them up from the nearest tree branch. As you so cleverly point out, the system is in place for a reason. As you may not be aware however, not everyone is as familiar with it as someone in your position - hence this forum and the few people actually interested in offering useful advice.

How about this....if you get busted for something YOU did and get a ticket...pay it. Stop acting like a f#$%ing kid. If you break the law and get caught what do you want to happen? Thats ok dont do it again? Grow up! If the law bends...it BREAKS!

While waiting for the JP to return to the courtroom the other day, the Prosecuter, court clerk, and I had a frank dicussion about tickets. We ALL agreed that it is the Insurance industry that has caused this massive movement to fighting tickets instead of paying them. I used to consider tickets the price I'm willing to pay to drive a flashy car at a speed I'm comfortable with. Speed limits are too low... no body obeys them... they were lowered in the 70's to conserve fuel, but were never raised again becuase of the enormous cash grab that was realized due to radar technology around the same time.

We ALL get tickets on occassion. Even you "Ward Clevers" can't get it right every second of every day. But the insurance industry will double your rates over the most minor infractions (ie. failure to show your drivers lisence), which means we HAVE to fight ALL tickets these days. It just makes good financial sense.

Now, due to the self-rightous nerds that seem to dominate this forum, I choose not to visit here any more. Cya

Haha... good riddance.

The system these days is so flexible with regards to speeding. Most tickets are reduced at either the time they are issued, or later in court. Rarely does anyone pay for the speed they were doing.

If people drove at a reasonable level there wouldn't be a problem. It's all these 'Fast and the Furious' wannabe racers killing people that have escalated the current situation with regards to traffic enforcement. The public is demanding it. Each time there is a fatal crash due to a high rate of speed and/or racing, there are public outcries for stricter enforcement and unfortunately this all filters down to the average Joe doing 130km/h in a 100km/h zone in his Buick.

Quit bitching.
