Help: I was driving on the 401 with G1 and also speeding >150km/h

Basically here's the story:

Me and my friend were on the 401 near London, Ontario when we got pulled over by the OPP. My friend is an international student and has an international license. He also has his G1, which by the OPP supercedes his international license within Ontario. He was driving the car and I, the owner, was sitting in the passenger seat. My car was an 2-door 1997 Acura Integra (has a spoiler and big muffler if either matters).

Anyhow, he was driving, not me. We were speeding 152km/h on the 401 and got caught.

The OPP officer gave my friend 5 tickets and gave me 1 ticket (I have a G2 license):

My friend's tickets are as follows:

1) Class G1 Licence Holder - Unaccompanied By Qualified Driver
Contrary to Highway Traffic Act Regulation 340/94

2) Class G1 Licence Holder - Carry Front Seat Passenger
Contrary to Highway Act Regulation 340/94

3) Class G1 Licence Holder - Drive At Unlawful Hour
Contrary to Highway Act Regulation 340/94

4) Class G1 Licence Holder - Drive On Prohibited Highway
Contrary to Highway Act Regulation 340/94

5) Stunt Driving, Excessive Speed, To Wit 152 KM/H In A Posted 100KM/H Zone
Contrary To Highway Traffic Act Section 172(1)

And me, the owner of the car sitting in the passenger seat, got 1 ticket:

1) Permit Person With Improper Licence To Drive Motor Vehicle
Contrary to Highway Traffic Act Section 32(10)
According to the OPP officer no points are taken off from my licence.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Basically he got 4 tickets relating to his G1 license and 1 really bad ticket for speeding. My car was towed away and impounded for 7 days. I got my car back now. What should we do? The OPP officer automatically gave us a court appearance date which we have to attend to either set a trial date or the actual court appearance. We're not so sure.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Should we hire an ex-cop or any other type of traffic specialist to represent us in court or should we go by ourselves?

Please help.

Thanks very much!

You have no idea how much that mattered!!

If your friend considers ANY option other than retaining the services of a qualified traffic attorney, he's nuts! He will never be able to afford insurance again with a record like that.

Hahahaahahahaha you're both idiots.

Why would you let him drive your car if he only had his G1? Also, have you been living under a rock for the past couple months? Not only did you let him drive your car with a G1, but you let him drive 50 over, which now means you were "racing".

So its your fault for 1) letting him drive in the the first place and 2) for letting him go that fast.

WOW! BONED! I suggest you find yourself a VERY good paralegal, or a full out lawyer. Those are serious charges, your buddy is gonna spend alot of money regardless, but he must fight to the bitter end to try and save his liscence and insurance rates.

Poor bastards... good luck to ya.

No I think you guys are forgetting something here. I'm extremely lucky for having him drive my car and having him caught rather than me being caught at that speed. He's an international student and he's returning to his country in just a couple of months. I'm a citizen and I'm here to stay. Nothing is going to chase him back to his country. Everything stays in Canada.

All that happened to me was my car got taken away for 1 week and a $250 fine, which my friend generously paid for both the towing and the fine, and my insurance and license is unaffected because I wasn't the driver.

I just want to help him out of the tickets. And the only reason we were going that fast was because
a) we're going from Chatham, Ontario to Toronto which is like 300km of endless open 4 lane highway, and
b) at 5:00 am in the morning where we thought OPP wouldn't be around...and there was a bit of fog too.

And forget my username, I do have a G2 license for 4 years. I should go for my G soon...

150 is the normal speed one should drive on the highway . i think g1 racer is right **** ... 4 lanes , empty straight highway ... you'd have to be retarded not to be able to drive 150 under those conditions . unfortunatelly many in canada can't

you should have told the cop that , in europe if you drive 150 on the far left lane , you have to switch to the right twice per minute to allow people to pass you .

and that about the G1 surpassing his international drivers license . what a ****ing insult . what a ****ing way to raise money to soup up their crown victorias . fascist ****s

otherwise they'd do what they do here . install electronic speed signs , that change the speed limit based on driving conditions . it's raining , snowing or dark ... 100 and under ... you have traffic ahead ... 60 kmph ... the highway is empty ... 130 and 150 easily tolerated .but no cuz that would cost money . and they could use that money to fund ERASER , PACER and KISSMYASSER

Coszmin man try explaining that to this stupid ministry of transportation we have.

Like seriously, they complicate things in Canada so much that it comes to a point where I want to move back to my Europe just to be able to drive a ****ing car.

In Europe you just pay the cop $20 bucks and he lets you go like seriously if you try that here the cop will give you another extra ticket. I don't think it should be this complicated to get out of a speeding of 152km/h ticket. Like **** its just a ticket and they think like we're criminals who killed somebody. In Europe people speed >200 and nothing major happens, really, and they have freeways even though despite the fact that Ontario is probably bigger than ANY european country and we still dont have any freeways.

Last time I got this speeding ticket and to set a trial date I had to wait 3 hours just to get through the huge line up. Like what the **** is that? You can pay your ticket online if you do not wish to challenge it but you have to wait in a huge *** line up just to set a trial date? What ****ers these people are! When it comes to payment and money they make it convenient and on the internet. When it comes to challenge the ****ing cop they make you wait and test your patience to see if you can stand the 3 hour line up and come back in 6 months at 9:00 am in the morning just to challenge the ticket. Pshht...

So you are telling me, you let your friend do 150+ in foggy conditions at early morning?

Dude, you were asking for those tickets.

Even if you do set a court date, at least in toronto, your date will be far more in teh future than 5 months.

What happens in canada stays in canada?

I know that if you don't pay your tickets in the states, it will transfer to your canadian drivers licence. I am not too sure about other countries.

And if you bribe an officer (or attempt), you will get a criminal charge

Now just keep your fingers crossed that the insurance companies don't find out over the next 3 years. The 156kph will be considered a MAJOR offense.

BTW... a couple weeks ago, I was on the 401 at about midnight with no other cars to be seen. Three lanes all to myself. It was virtually impossible to keep it under 150, LOL. Since this new law has been enacted, it kinda' feels like it's "ok" to speed, as long as we keep it under 150... it's like 150 has become the new speed limit

XCOPPERS went bankrupt but should've got a lawyer for sures.
for future reference try O.T.T. @ Speeding Tickets, Traffic Ticket, Traffic Tickets, Ontario Traffic Tickets, Toronto Traffic Ticket, Impaired driving Defense. they're ticket fighters.

that's a sh!tload of money and not worth it especially ont he 401 cause cops hide there all the time.
