Modified car, who will insure???

Well, my civic is ready to cruise but my insurance company won't insure the car because it's modified!!! What a surprise! I explained to them what's done and the have approached me with a " Facility insurance", basically charging me through the *** $2100 a year on a car that's only going to be driven on weekends in the summer and under 5000 km per year! And i think that price is only liability!
My question to you guys is, is there any company out there that will insure a modified 93 civic with roughly $10,000 invested into it?

Thanks in advance.

So, basically since no one has replied, it leads me to believe that all you guys with mod cars haven't informed you're insurance company about what mods are done and that if you get into an accident you have a good chance of getting " the boot " from the company!?!?
I have checked with some companies and they have all said " NO " because of mods, and others have offered me Facility insurance- TOO EXPENSIVE!!!

i believe it all depends on who your company is....everyone gives u different stories about insuring modded cars...for some..i've heard stories where the insurer is glad that you told them about the mods cuz they won't insure you when you get into an accident and finds out that you didn't tell them anything about mods...

I got a friend with a 99 dakota R/T who just had his policy droped because of his headers and intake.
If anyone knows a company who will cover modified cars, please post it
Thanks

and? You think insurance companys care? Nobody rides a motorcycle in the winter but they still make you pay for 12 months. Insurance in ontario is ORGANISED CRIME and you are going to get ****ed, so you can pay huge amounts or lie out of your *** and hope nothing bad happens like everyone else.

2100 a year is not too bad.
The problem my friend has is his insurance co droped him and he is having a hard time getting anyone to insure him.

you are complaining about $175 bucks a month? my car is propably driven less than yours and costs a significant amount more to insure... If you dont like the price, dont get it and take the chance and drive without it... or buy a trailer and pull it wherever you want to go.

You guys are failling to see my point and turning this topic into a dumb discussion! All i'm saying is that the price my insurance company quoted me was to expensive for me on a car that would be driven on occasional weekends in the summer months. To top it all off, it's a 12 month policy that only covers liability, and if i were to cancel at the end of the summer i would pay a " hefty fine "!

My question again is, if you or someone you know has an insurance company/broker that is aware that you're vehicle is modified, i would like to know a name so that i could get a quote myself!

Sounds like Facility will be the only insurer for that car, considering your under 25 and their quoting you that, and/or you have speeding tickets. Also driving a rice rocket qualifies for up the *** facility prices as well.

Kuztom Freak has a spectacular aura aboutKuztom Freak has a spectacular aura about
when i was younger i know you could sign legal papers swearing specifically how and when you would drive yer ride IF you wanted something specail (coverage wise) now this was a loooong time ago well over a decade. Meaning if you signed a document stating that you would never drive it monday-friday and you did - they would fine you and drop you as a client and youd be blacklisted and still have yer premiums go up, and if you had an accident while driving on those days - you would also legally + financially be responsible for everything + yer company would NOT cover you cuz you drove outside of yer agreement meaning youd also get tickets for not having proper insurance/no insurance.

then came NO FAULT insurance, however you still might find a company that would agree to you legally swearing sat+sun use only, locally, for specific reasons, etc...

also, you can put yer ride away come winter and switch coverage to some other vehicle (winter beater) and this will not affect you (no penaltys + what ever else ya mentioned) and come spring you just switch back to yer modified ride

they dont care how much you drive, less less you drive the better for them, they count on good safe drivers to pay for the bad crappy *******

so I recomend you get a winter beater ($500 car is good) if ya aint already got one and switch coverage from one ride to another - save yerself the fines and maintain yer premiums

NOTE: you may find a company that lets you place a HOLD on yer policy for 6 months (usually used when you say you sold yer ride and are looking for another, but who knows, ya might get lucky)

hoped me helped ya some
