If they find out you mis-represented the vehicle, you will be dropped. It is your responsibility to notify them of modifications.

i just wouldn't tell them about the mods, not worth it. A cop called my insurance years ago because of an intake + header under my hood. They raised my insurance to 10,000 a year.. basically telling me to **** off.

$2100 to insure a Civic is very reasonable considering it's theft rate, accident rate and your age.

Most people wont notify insurance of mods because the insurance will raise your monthly fee. I am with State Farm and I dont tell them anything. Just recently my car was stolen and found. They fixed it up but told me they wouldnt cover aftermarket parts. I took it to a body shop and basically got everything put back on with the money insurance quoted the damage as.

This whole insurance/modification situation is completely ridiculous.

And we can only hope for the government or insurance companies to change anything...

If you want your mods covered, then your rates should go up - a LITTLE, accordingly. If no mods are reported or you choose not to have aftermarket stuff covered, then you should simply not be covered for only the aftermarket stuff. They could even have a contract to protect them, like if for example you tried to "claim" your ruined rims that weren't covered, or the sweet turbo kit you decided not to insure.

I hope somehow all this grey area gets solidified someday, and hopefully will be fair to responsible modified car owners.
