Dont expect to get sympathy the same way that you would for being caught with the wrong coloured lightbulbs or for an exhaust that is too loud. This is a touchy subject for a lot of ppl, myself included. Sure, everyone makes mistakes - but not every mistake results in someone's loved ones getting killed. 10 years ago, I lost a good friend of mine to a drunk driver. She had her life stolen 1 day shy of her 19th birthday and our court systems gave the driver a slap on the wrist. How fair is that?

Everyone needs to take a big step back and chill. EVERYONE makes mistakes. Some are more serious than others, and yes, sometimes peope are hurt as a result. But this is NOT a morality forum. No one - absolutely no one - in the entire time I've visited this forum, has ever come here to justify what they've done.
People come here to ask for help. And given the tone of most of the responses, buckles is right to wonder why they bother. All the vindictive "ne'er do wrongs" here need to take a page from the cartoon rabbit - If you ain't got nothing nice to say...

25 years ago today, I'd be on my way over to my buddies' with a case of beer, gettin' ready for our Friday night beer-tour. There was NO thought about charges 'cuz it wasn't a big deal back then (and we never had wrecks). 23 years ago today, half my friends had license suspensions for impared, LOL. It happened just that fast!!!
Now, no one ever gets all upset about pathetic seniors behind the wheel, or people who drive tired (and nod off). These issues cause more accidents than a couple beers do, but there just not socially attacked the way slight impairment is.
Now kids can't drive alone in their own cars due to the new licensing laws. Most can't afford their own insurance anyway. Yah, Yah... I know statistics-this, and statistices that... but the fact is, kids can't do SQUAT these days. One ticket and their screwed for years. Heck, I had 5 tickets before my 18th birthday, and insurance never went up one dollar!
Kids can't work further away than their bicyles will get them, or their folks have to drive them everywhere because of this "massive foot" that has come down on them. I suspect these enormous insurance rates have a less than credible destination. Weather all this money is going to repay the 911 tragedy, or going straight into politicians pockets, I don't know, but it seems you have to live at home 'till your 25 these days, because so many rules force you to.
I would love to tell my kids, "Get a job... Buy a Car... and get an apartment!!", but it's too damn expensive these days. So fight your ticket. Tell the judge you had some sort of gum disease and when you blew in the machine, you blew blood (causing a higher reading than 100% breath would).
GL
(This does not apply to "DRUNK" drivers... ie. double the limit, weaving down the road. They can rot in jail)

If you didn't blow too much over, theres a good chance of getting the charge reduced,to say a careless. Go in and talk to the crown. Explain to him/her that you know you ****ed up,and are truely sorry, and have learned a valuable lesson. As long as you didn't blow too much over, they will usually lower the charge.

Did you do a little dance and laugh in people's faces in the courtroom, too? I would've liked to see that.
