Question

When a car has "unfit" on the ownership, what does that mean?

you MUST get it saftied first before transfering ownership

"unfit" means the car was sold "un-certified" or "un-roadworthy"

Be ware that some cars are re-built usually by chop shops and are really 2 or more cars pieced back together, these are usually really cheap, id never buy one personally. some cars are also branded in a way that they are not legal for use on the roads ever - these usually get turned into race track or off road only vehicles.

it all depends on what it needs, if it needs nothing but the paperwork then get him to do it, if it needs work to pass you can use that to bargain the price down a bit. also get him to do the emmissions, if it dont pass you cannot put it in yer name to get a plate sticker for it, then you bot a rock that needs $$$ thrown at it, if you can do the work yerself then ok but since yer axing da Q's im gessing ya dont, so let the dude do the work for ya and save yerself a headache.

If he cant do it then how are you going to do it?

Id stay away from this car

Is it uncertifiable or is it marked as not for public road use?

Unfit just means it was registered without a safety at one point. Doesn't necessarily mean it was chopped... but it can't be in good shape.
