Stolen car problem

Ok so here's my situation,

I had a modded 98 civic, different engine, tranny and a whole lot more done to it. i brought it to a shop because my drive shaft needed to be replaced, i needed new suspension installed and some other things.
The car was there for a couple weeks and they told me they had some big jobs to work on so they were getting to mine afterwards...Then i get a phone call.
The shop owner says my car was stolen and that he had no insurance for where the car was parked. I call my insurance company and find out at the same time that I didn't have theft under my policy. I went to the shop and they basically said that they couldn't do anything and hopefully the police find my car. My car didn't have too many stock parts on it, inside and out, so i know that even if they do find it, chances are it will just be the frame.

I think I have a case so I'm just wondering if any of you know a good lawyer that would fight this case, or have any idea as to wtf I should do because right now I have no car and no money, so I basically just lost $10-12,000.

dude - get some proof that the shop had yer car.

next - once the shop or a mechanic takes yer ride - they afe fully responsible for it (any HTA offences while road testing it, parking tix, accidents, + theft ) so the shop owner is just trying to get out of it scott free

go back and tell him that you are gonna sue his ***, and report him to some business agency, etc...

he could have taken yer ride home and parked it on HIS driveway - and if it got stolen there - then he IS responsible for it. If they parked it - they are liable. If you parked it - well that may be a diff story.

for all you know - he was the one that took it

I'm amazed that anyone with a highly modded Civic would not have theft coverage. Have a lawyer send the shop a letter. They'll come to some arrangement with you. If not make sure their reputation takes a beating.

Ya I'm gonna have to work on the proof. I didn't sign any papers or anything because I trusted the shop. As for the insurance, I didn't know that I didn't have theft on my insurance untill this happened so check your policies to make sure.

I had my car stolen from a shop a few years back unless the car is inside the shop it's your insurance that pays. Always insist your car is kept inside or in a locked secure compound.
