There are also several other different laws that let a cop search your car without a warrant, including locked areas. Power to do so comes from different sections in the Canadian Criminal Code, as well as Ontario's own Environmental Protection Act, Highway Traffic Act, Liquor License Act, Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act, Fuel Tax Act, Tobacco Tax Act, and probably a few more than I can't think of at the moment.
The cop doesn't have to answer any questions you may ask of him. The only person the cop has to answer to is the judge if charges are laid or your vehicle seized.
You can refuse to cooperate, but people who insist on standing on their rights without actually knowing the limits of those rights often end up in handcuffs. And then the search will continue, with or without your cooperation.
Thing is, if you cooperate, then the cop can go about his business without having to smash your windows or crowbar your truck or hood to gain access.

I know my rights... and if there is no reason for a cop to search my ..I dont have to let him. I understand what you're saying, but a cop can't just pull over any random car and search their crap! A cop cant just pull you ovr and say " i think you have drugs in your car...im searchin you, punk". Thats what warrants are for...and if warrants are so easy to bypass, then why are they there in the first place?

It's pretty obvious that you don't know the extent or limits of your rights.

Whether it's your car or not makes no difference. Several laws give the cop the specific right to search or otherwise inspect a vehicle without warrant, whether you agree or not, and there is no differentiation made between "locked" and unlocked parts of your car. The validity of such search and inspection laws is consistently upheld in the courts.
By the way, a cop needs no probable cause at all to conduct a roadside safety inspection on your car, and you are obligated by law to assist, including opening your hood. You could refuse, but be prepared for things to start going very badly for you.

Im sure they are allowed to if they want to.. but if ur a cop who goes around harrassing people about a ****in valvecover airfilter, then you chose the wrong proffession....there are way more serious crimes going on, and these pigs have nothing better to do than pick on kids and their civics.... nuff said
