2003 Jetta 1.8T (Help with Mods!)
I have a brand new 1.8T, what should i do to get some HP? Chip? Diverter? Downpipe?
Which brands? Need some feedback! I am thinking Upsolute, or revo for the chip. Remis or miltek, for the exaust |
check out this guide:
http://www.kipanderson.net/forum/showthread.php?t=3808 its about isuzu 1.8T but alot of info applies to you. Your car is in pretty good running order since its a brand new car, exhaust would be my first priority, chips, well im not really too happy with chips but it wouldnt hurt. Now since you are running boost you must think about the preassure in your engine, since the air preassure is high, every little bump in the intake takes away relativley alot of preformance, therefore a must is to port and polish everything, you will see some good gains out of that, but thats later on..... oh yeah and lots of stickers, lots and lots of stickers ! typer R, etc |
A chip will give you about 30-40hp, turbo-back ill give you another 15 or so, DV won't give you any power, but it'll hold the boost better.
As for the brands, UPsolute is the cheapest, but makes a bit less power(you can get 1 from 10xtuning.com) Revo is the best from what I've heard, then APR and GIAC are also good. |
To be honest... don't even bother with the stock turbos...
Upgrade the turbo, exhaust mani, intercooler and injectors... Get Revo ECU software, and goto a dyno... U'll make MUCH more power... the stock dinky turbos are a waste.. u'll spend all this money on a chip, DV, etc... and still not be that fast... Although it all depends on how fast u want to go. |

^^^ in a Jetta? and I don't know... ~200 WHP doesn't seem like it'll pull a car into the mid 13's that is as heavy as the MKIV
|
Yea I think in a jetta too. Most people run mid-low 14s@95-100mph with the basic bolt ons
But yea, t3/T04E 57 trim with .63 A/R, and big turbo software is the way to go :thumbsup |

do REVO chip.. 3" DP with 2.5 highflow Cat back.. Remis or meltix is ok
as for the t3/T04E 57 trim with .63 A/R... way to big from stock K3... go with a 50 trim .48AR and you will be happier |
Thank
Thanks guys, revo expensive, so i think i am going with upsolute, a new DV and a remis custom catback.
|
get a high flow cat.. if your goin to spend the money on a remis catback

make the piping the same size as the downpipe.. you don't want back-pressure with a turbo brands? chips? it depends on who tunes the for you. but APR is good, Unitronic, even the Neuspeed p-chip... get it professionally tuned. you can add programs to your ecu and select through them... piping? downpipes - GHL. GHL makes whole kits, mandrel bent, stainless, direct bolt-on with fittings intakes? depends if you want cold air or not... the neuspeed p-flow is ideal under certain circumstances... i love the AEM cold air intake... neuspeed intercooler's awesome inlet valves bov suspension... figure out your applications and do what you want |

Although it all depends on how fast u want to go. a chip will give you noticeable gains... along with that comes running rich, running potentially dangerously with stock parts with the stock turbo running high psi... it comes down to what you intend to do with your car... making it fast and making it a race car is a fine line, but is divided with a huge price tag |

actually, about 20inches from the turbo the air starts to cool down a lot, thus if you make a smaller pipe will not effect as a restriction (to a certain extent) since cold air is more dense it requires slightly less room. So to keep optimum velocity comming out you actually can actually go smaller. plus 3inch is super annoying driving around daily. |
