As far as not moding subframe, you can do 1.8 8v, 1.8 16v, 2L 8(ABA),2L 16v.

90's Passat 2l 16v is the best all round swap for that car. Easy, and 140hp, 150 ft lbs.

No. It makes 134HP and 133TQ @ the crank.

----------------

As for doing a 2L 16v swap you will need the motor of course but you wont be able to use the tranny enless you convert to hydraulic clutch. To do that you will need pretty much the whole engine bay(engine, tranny, ecu, wiring, fuse box, etc.) plus you will need a Corrado shifter box and cables(Because its a little bit shorter then the Passat ones). You will also need to drill for the manual pedal assembly.

What you can do is use the Passat motor and grab any manual tranny that uses a clutch cable(Any mk2 golf/jetta use clutch cables) and grab the pedal assembly, and just pop it in.

As for if its hard or easy its really up to you. If you are mechanically inclined then it should be easy but if your are already doubting yourself, maybe you should find someone to do the swap for you. If you are interested I have a buddy that can help you do the swap for half the price of any VW shops in Ontario.

Heres a little info on the easy motor swaps for your car;

1.8 8v;
90-105HP & 98-114TQ

1.8 16v
123HP & 120TQ

2L 8v
115HP & 122TQ(Both ABA(MK3) and AEG(MK4) make the same HP/TQ)

2L 16v
134HP & 133TQ

G60- 1.8 8v Supercharged
158HP & 166TQ

I could go on forever bout these motors. After all I did build a 2L 16v Turbo..

Stay away from VW autos. They're .

For VW Jettamk2, the last 2l 16v I dynoed, out of a car, put down 140 hp, and 150 ft lbs. It did how ever have euro VW cams, and 50mm intake.

It comes stock with NA cams which are as harsh as a basket of kittens and a 42mm intake manifold.

I wish I had a 50mm on my 16vT

LOL, Just put 50's on my buddy Ron's 16v MK2 GTI, and Simon GTX's GTX. First time I'd ever seen 2 mint 50's in the same place. The NA cams are . Never understood why they didn't send the GTI's with the euro exhaust cam. Stupid smog.

If you want to have it auto, you'll need to find a 16v motor that was automatic. Easy to find a Passat auto 16v compared to GTI's or GTX's

To be honest, I dont think you should do an automatic swap.
