They liked the miata so much because as they said it "it handles so good"

But a F40 is surely missing

If the Miata weren't there, we'd have no Elises, no S2000's, etc, etc, etc. The Miata turned the sports car world around. Small, light, quick, good handling, awesome weight distribution. Obviously none of you has been to an auto cross event. Miata's, Rabbit's, and old Mini's still dominate the 4 cyl class.

Seriously what are you talking about?

The roadster is a european phenom from the beginning, perfected by the Brits. Copied by everyone else. You talk like there was no small, light, quick, good handling & wgt dist. cars before 1990? Japan had over 30 years of roadsters under its belt by then.

And the Elise? It doesn't share any resemblance to the Miata other than maybe it has two seats and two headlights.

Miata's popularity was two-fold 1.) Came at a time when SUV sales were ramping up and people wanted a sporty second. 2.) Cheapest, reliable roadster of its time released into a recession.

Great handling car though but don't get it twisted.

Please, when was the last time, BEFORE the Miata, that anyone had a 2 seater, that actually sold? Lets see, the Nissan 300Z came with the 2 seat option, but that was a big heavy car. The RX7 had a sortof back seat. Esprit? LOL. The Elise came into popularity AFTER the Miata. I'm not a fan of the 2 seat roadster, but the Miata brought back the concept from the dead.

No they didn't.

You guys have to watch the TV show to understand it. The Miata doesn't seem like it should be there, but they really justify it with their explanation.

Yep Ok Rabbit guy...Never sold any Vettes in North America, millionth unit had been sold by then and roadsters of course did poorly worldwide before 1990.

The car was right time right place for a few years but hardly "turned the sports car world around" maybe for bi-sexuals.

Look at the latest data its pretty much over:
10/06 10/05 Change 2006 2005
1,020 1,236 (-17.5)% 14,878 7,165

Been declining steady since its debut down to 7,165 people just responded well initially to a cheap reliable roadster after the demise of Brit manufacturers.

It may be cut soon in Japan my sources say.

true the small compact roadster is started by the brits... but how many Trimpths, MGs, and other small British roadsters have those guys sold? not many the miata brought back the small compact roadster to popularity... suprisingly they didnt state which version was the best and it probably still be the mk1 1.8

of course, if you guys have to go with the gay comments on the miata i can say nothing... if a car defines your sexual preferences there's something seriously wrong with your male security.... like guys who think a hummer shows off how big their ***** is.... simply ridiculous

cars have no ****ing sexuality! grow up

Some roadsters did well like the MG Midget 350,000ish over its 18 year run.

And yes cars do refect persona otherwise they would all still be plain black Model Ts bro.

The Miata is slipping amongst teh ghey consumers too. Straight people buy them now they will be worth money if they slip below 10.

1 Toyota Yaris
2 Dodge Caliber
3 Volkswagen Jetta
4 Audi A3
5 Mazda MX-5 (Miata)
6 Saab 9-3
7 Pontiac G6
8 Saturn Sky
9 Toyota Camry
10 Toyota Prius
11 Pontiac Solstice
12 Mazda CX-7
13 Ford Escape-Hybrid
14 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
15 Scion xB
16 Subaru Impreza WRX Sti
17 Volkswagen Passat
18 Scion tC
19 Ford Focus
20 Mitsubishi Lancer-Evolution (tie)
20 Toyota FJ-Cruiser (tie)
20 Chevrolet Aveo (tie)

persona, maybe, sexual preference? probably not... i wouldn't mind driving a red miata around church street... hell i drive a grey mini through church street and i still dont really care... if that's how people want to brand me, fine...

that said, i can see where you are coming from.... dont mean its correct, neither is my opinion... so i will just agree to disagree

Hey, B6T, I didn't realize the RX7's didn't have a back seat. Thanks for clearing that up man.

OK, so what you're saying is the Miata competes with the Vette? I didn't include the Vette in my previous post, because it's not the same class. You could buy 3 Miatas for the price of a Vette, and personally I'd take the Miata, and a house before buying a overpowered, American made POS like the Vette that was made when the Miata came out. The Vette has been made into a decent car finally, with the C5, and C6 models. Anything before the C5 is a peice of .
British roadsters. Or well, now there's a good arguement. BUT, I'm going to go with your numbers of 350,000 sold. However, the Triumph's, A/C's, Lotus's, etc, never caught on here, or too many other places, mainly because of reliability issues. When the Miata came out, not too many people owned roadsters, for that reason. The Vette is not a roadster. It's a muscle car. Plain and simple. Ok, it's got a roadster body layout, but they never handled very well, until the C5, and yes, I'm including the ZR1 in that.
This arguement could go on forever, but I'm sticking with my original post, that if not for the Miata, we wouldn't have the S2000, or the Elise. And B6T's right, you had to watch the show to understand why the Miata is on the list.
BTW, what's with the gay comments? A little insecure?
