World's Greatest Sports Cars

No you said no roadsters sold well before the Miata which is of course wrong. The Vette was not a "muscle car" sorry bro. It was developed in the early 50s to compete against the Jag XK120. Jaguar was another success story roadster with the e-Type 1962-1974.
Muscle cars (as we all know) developed in the early-mid 60s reaching their pinnacle in 1970 and declining into nothing more than graphics packages soon thereafter...think Mustang II
Miata was just a new take on the cheap reliable UK roadster that had been absent for 10 years. Right time, right place and MASS PRODUCED everything else was too expensive/hand-built. S2000 and Lotus are hardly in their category costing over double the price?! Plus the Lotus isn't a roadster proper with its mid-engine and monocoque construction tying it Miata is irresponsible. They have been making that config well before the Miata was an idea.
On another note: I think the Miata is the only roadster with little to no collector value. And I will say again is going to be clipped in Japan after 1000 units sold last year.
Automotive styles come and go and the first to market wins. Need proof? Look at the hype around the retro Beetle, spawned lord knows how many retro designs since 1994 prototype...now you can't give them away.
Anyway hope you learned something.

No one said the Miata is going to be a collector car. Although, I bet that Ferdinand Porsche never thought the Beetle would ever be one either. And I grouped the Miata with the S2000 and the Elise, simply because they followed the Miata, and as far as I can see are riding on what the Miata started back up, the roadster love. Lets face it, how were roadster sales before the Miata came on the scene? Anyway, I've had enough of this, the Miata deserves to be there, and that's all there is to it.
Oh, and as for the Vette being a muscle car, I'm sticking with that. It'll never compete with anything Jaguar ever made. It's a muscle car. Just a little smaller. Maybe in 58, it might have been something different, but from 63 on, it was just a more sought after muscle car.

Well the Vette debuted in 1953 to compete against Jaguar, Alfa and Ferrari roadsters. And had healthy open top roadster sales until today. Powered by a 253ci inline-6 it made 150hp.
And considering muscle cars came into effect over 10 years later from special trim lines of everyday joe coupes like the Tempest and morphed into something else like the GTO.
Lumping the Vette in that category is way off. Yes they threw a potent V8 in a decade later but what else could GM power it with to keep up with the Brits and Italians?
The Elise was already in development when the Miata took off and the S2000 came 10 years later at double the price so I don't see any relationship.
Anyway the Skyline made it, credit is due. It is the most winning GT car in history ever (4 straight years with 29 consecutive wins)

Yeah the Skyline could have used a bump up a couple spots. I'm not just jocking it cause I own one :-)
Because it wasn't hyped up enough or sold in North America it quietly became the most successful race car of all time in Asia & Aus. THen continued to be the most successful endurace car of all time.
$250,000 Porsche 959 technology for only $60,000 it was lightyears ahead of everything else in 1989.
I still agree the Miata should be there...somewhere.
I don't think the Countach should be there I mean there were far better lambos before and after.
Plus the 360 should have supplanted the Enzo. The most popular supercar of all time and put Ferrari back on the map.

enzo, is great too, but without the F40, there'd be no enzo... just as without the F355, the 360 might not have been as sucessful....
speaking of 959, im suprised it isn't there... but then again, if there's only 10 cars, those 10 are as good as any
im guessing the countach's impact was more in terms of the fact that lambo has just built the world's most unique looking car, its not great looking car, and a few years ago when james may of top gear drove it he said it was a piece of garbage, but u know when it first came out, everyone would've batted an eye at the lambo and not the ferrari

The Countach, now that thing was either a complete abomination, or a beautiful car, depending on the point of view. I remember reading a review of it, and it got terrible reviews. The doors had a nice habit of just falling down whenever they felt like it, the car is almost impossible to get out of, and backing it up is impossible. I think now that I've typed that, that it was Jeremy Clarkson. Personally, I think it's hideous, and wouldn't even think of buying one, even if I had the money, which I don't. If I had the money to buy a "supercar", I'd buy a 2001 Viper GTS ACR.

Yeah the Countach was garbage, the Fiero Countach kit was prolly better. What about the Muira, Jalpa and later the Diablo was a huge leap forward and today the Gallado dominates supercar sales.
No M3 either and no Lotus. I'll have to watch this show to find out WTF?
