cheap amps on ebay

(first post)

hey i'm new to the whole upgraded car audio thing, for starters i bought a pair of 12" alpine's SWS-1242D. which spec: (Peak) : 900W
Power Handling Capacity (RMS) : 300W

i bought these first before my deck, or amp, and now i'm looking around for the cheapest possible amp to power them, and so far the cheapest one i can find that'll power them (250w nominal) is one of these Visonik amps: http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?...2198&rd=1&rd=1

will that thing last longer than the weekend? or does it have "piece of " written all over it?

Don't waste your money. Go to a reputable shop and lay out some dough on a mid quality name brand amp. You will never regret buying good quality equipment. I have one eclispe 3121 2/1 channel amp, with an Alpine 3653 crossover powering an MTX road thunder 5000 series 12" sub, and I have never regretted the money I spent on it. All of those components are almost as old as my rabbit, and have never given me any problems. Bottom line, SPEND THE EXTRA TO GET QUALITY THE FIRST TIME!

yea my good freind was telling me the same thing, he said get a good amp off the bat so you can get whatever sub u want, and subs die alot faster than the amps do. (so i was told anyways) I wanted to see if i can cheat my way around it by getting a cheaper one.

Cheap amps cause distortion, which number one sounds like hell, and number 2 really shortens the life of speakers. You will never be happy with cheap equipment.

You'd be lucky to get 250 watts RMS @ 4ohms bridged out of that amp.

Power costs money.

Look at the MTX black thunder amps, 2150x and 2300x. They're pretty tough, old but made back when MTX still made it's amps in the USA, easily puts out the power, and should be available for a pretty good price.

MTX rules. I love my road thunder 5000 12". Too bad it's like 10 years old. Still sounds good though. One of these days I'm going to have to buy a new one.
