Gloss black stands out just a little, and I think you'll be very pleased. That's the color I did mine, and I'm happy with it. You sure put a lot more into the cleaning! I pretty much just cleaned off the dirt and loose rust, and painted over the rest. Should last me awhile, since I don't drive the car all that much. The paint is pretty cheap too.

Yes, I went nuts over making sure there clean. I had all the brackets sandblasted, and used I think 6 cans of break clean and an entire thing of brass/copper polish with wire brushes(i ruined 2 and almost wrecked the 3rd one) on the calipers, Im hoping this will last year, thats my goal, I used 4 or 5 coats of paint and I just put the 3rd coat of clear on now, I hope it was worth all of the effort.

haha i bet theres easier ways to do it than all the work you put in it. i cleaned my friends 350 block for him with some simple green, a rag, and a wire brush attatchment for my drill and that was it.

O my gosh, I never thought of a wire brush drill bit, that prolly would have saved tons of time. And breakkleen brand brakeclean works the best, I ended up using 3 different brands, and for me it put the others to shame.
