I've been lurking a bit and thought I'd throw up a quick post here.

I currently manage at a shop in Durham called Dealers Select Collision. I am also very passionate about painting, some might say obsessed (i know the wife would). I run a refinishing website at refinishnetwork.com where I've created a few free training courses & have my and many other peoples work proudly displayed.

I know, enough about me already. For the original poster whom may already have had his car done, you will find prices varying from 1000 up to 10,000 depending on where you go. Most of the cost in completes is consumed by body repairs, ie. dents, rust repairs, bumper splits... and the paint represents a smaller portion of the price. Its hard to imagine a 95 civic only requiring a scuff and paint but I guess its possible. For the most part if you come across a shop willing to do the job in the $1000 range you will likely not be very happy with the results. Granted even when you sink $10,000 into your car it doesn't necessarily guarantee you a good paint job.

I think you'd find most shops typically charge in the $3000-6000 range which is usually a fair price IMO. There is the very odd small one man shops that will still do them in the $2000-3000, I don't know of any around here, none that I'd be really recommend anyhow. If you spend some time educating yourself on the painting process you'll be able to ask the right questions and get a better feel for any shop. Just be careful out their, for ever good bodyshop there's 2 bad ones.
