Painting Rotors?

Hi everyone first real post on this page and its a guestion.

I've just got new brakes put on the front and was wondering if i could spray the rotor fins down with VHT paint to help prevent them from rusting.

Is this a good idea or bad, by fins i mean the cooling vents..

Thanks

You could do that, but any rotor/drum paint just wears off in time anyways. The brake system is exposed to alot of heat causing it to expand and contract which flakes the paint off. To apply paint to the rotor fins is pointless to me because they carry alot of heat and the only thing i would paint are the calipers if anything.

Painting the fins might look all nice for the install, but will look liek later when you see rust and the flakes of paint. Who looks at the fins anyways?

Only part of the rotor I've painted is the hat. Just did them black. I even cured them in the oven, and they still crack a bit.

if they are new you can get them coated with cadmium or something similar.

it will deteriorate over time, however the difference is that after 2 winters they will look as if they were used in the summer only, while someone with an uncoated set will have them completely rusted out.

Yeah, painting your rotors sounds like a bad idea. Won't the pads just rip off the paint the first time you hit the brake??
