1997 ecu/pcm

I read that i can drop a 1997 ecm in my 1996 camaro v6..and it will be a plug and play...but did the pcm have to be reprogram for my car with the vin or somthing like that?
do it need to be from a 5 speed since mine is 5 speed too or any 1997 can be used?

thanks

this is what im doing at the moment my pcm is at customs, to my best understanding it is plug and play when i ordered mine from pcmforless they will ask you questions concerning vin and transmission and such. as for ANY 97 pcm if its used chances are about 50/50 i had many people at wreckers tell me that you will need a flash for it to work with you car. in my area used pcm's are going for 60 bucks used when one from pcmforless.com was 50 plus shipping and i know exactly what im getting forsure.
