A lot of people/companies will put stuff on a car and do a crazy tune on it just to get really good numbers to sell their items. There are also different techniques to dynotune a car- a dyno is only a test/tune device, as far as I know there is no standard for setting a dyno.
which is also why the same car on different dynos will have different numbers

You have got to be confused with something else..Most place generally charge somewhere in the area of $50 for 3 pulls, as far as I know.

keep in mind 10 years ago when I started building my last drag car there were only a handful of places(it's only been teh last few years the things were cheap enough for a regular shop to buy)I looked at what it would cost for a cheap one and it was over $100,000 and that had no electronics for actually running the thing

upwards of 350? LOL, I know they were conservatively rated, but please, the 04 Z06 vette only dyno's at about 340-350. cmon....
