to get an accurate indication of mileage you need to run a couple tanks through it and average

My 3.8 usually sees around 290 to 300 miles in the city and 380 on the highway. Though I try not to go 380 on the highway because thats pushing it if there isn't a filling station nearby. Out on these Arizona/California highways, there are some long stretches through the desert. (Which is also why I take them )

But yeah the fuel indicator drops like a rock after the half way mark. I usually hit 260 miles at the halfway mark on the highway then only a hundred miles after.

I measure mine by this, generally: (auto 3.8)

It will fill over the full mark.. Usually from above full to full I get 50 miles average, on a good trip - 70

From F to 3/4 I get about 100.

From 3/4 - 1/2 I get about 100.

From 1/2 - 1/4, 50

From 1/4 - E, generally 50 at the most. Ive gotten more, You can probably get close to 100 but I dont like to push my luck often.

All this comes with good driving, and I do most highway, so I get a little bit higher. I get around 20 in the city, 25ish on highway. I just changed my PCV, so I think its getting a mile or two better now. Havent gone enough miles to really tell, but from the markers I use it is.

first of all, if you want good fuel mileage, dont shift at 4500k, but yea, i know what you mean about the drops, every time i make a right turn my guage drops 1/4 tank, then when i make a left turn, it goes back up. ive gotten used to it though.
