Nope, someone here bypassed the oil cooler on a lt1 bird, I think they did it for more oil pressure.

Ok, I didn't realize it would give you better oil pressure. Not a bad idea then.

i think its b4c not bc4 but i dont think the coolers would make much difference in how much boost u could run but they wouldnt hurt, boost would probably effect it the same as any other camaro

yeah its B4C.

the LT1 oil cooler is crap. all it does is create a water jacket around the oil filter base. so in theory its supposed to cool the oil, but all it does is restrict flow and since the coolant is after the water pump its already hot anyway.

If you have sufficient cooling with your motor there really isn't a reason to try and cool the oil as well.

As far as cooling the motor for more boost, you are only partially correct. What you really want to cool is the intake air temp or IAT. Hotter air is more likely detonate sooner and therefore you will hurt the motor sooner. The cooler the air temp is, the more boost you can run on the same motor without hurting it. This is of course only true to a certain point. You can only run a certain amount of boost for the motor you have. If your motor is stock then I wouldnt' run anymore than 8 lbs of boost. That should be plenty for you anyway. With a bolt-on motor and 8lbs of boost you should easily be close to the 500rwhp mark.

I would worry more about the condition of the car and not worry so much about different coolers for the car.

Boost is boost. Turbos don't need anymore PSI to make more power, its just that typically they are used to get higher boost numbers. Typically if you are going to run more than 12-15lbs people normally end up running a turbo or two.

B4C

I would buy the B4C too but remember thats the police package. I have one too but was lucky as it was a show car that GM had never titled. Check it out good mechanically cuz cops drive em like they stole em. 65k on a cop car is at least double the normal wear and tear. The only good thing is that fleet cars are maintained better than personal cars. I threw an alarm on it to have the remote since fleet cars didn't have that option then (1996).

oil cooler was on option on LT1 cars. i beleive it was standard on 6 speed 93 Z-28's. when i did my rear main seal and wanted to drop the oil pan, the oil cooler lines were RIGHT in the way of the oil pan bolts. it was at that point i decided oil coolers sucked.lol. plus like stated, if you have a stock engine and a maintenanced vehicle with proper working cooling components, an oil cooler is not necesary at all.

Thats correct- If you are running a road course of some-kind then possibly I could see the need for it, but not one that uses the engine coolant to try and lower the temps.. The type that are like a tranny cooler are much better if you are going to run one.
