Bored

Im getting bored with my car, that damn bug got me again, you know which one Im talking about, I just have to change it up a little, more power maybe?

Status update:
Fuel pump cooked, had new one put in along with new fuel level sender (gas gauge works now) W00t!

Exhaust making terrible rattling noise; cause: cat. Huge *** dent in the front of the outer guard for the cat and dented the cat as well, as if I hit something, but im 99% sure I didn't, cat rattles and randomly it doesn't run well.

My cousin (who lives 3 streets over) came back from school in AZ, he worked at an LS1 motor sports shop down there just building engines all day, so Im hoping I can go deeper into projects, and if I **** them up in my usual manner, help is just a phone call away.

So my thoughts are whats out there for us 6ers? Just cams and n2o? Forced induction is out of the question, for now. Could a couple of guys knock out a cam install in a weekend? A cam install is really I think what Im looking at, Id like to stay off the juice if at all possible. What cam should I be looking for, I know there are several. Can someone point me into the right direction? And does someone make a cam install kit? Car has about 86k on the clock, incase it matters.

If you've made it this far in my post go take a coffee/chocolate milk break and give yourself mad props for not falling asleep reading about my boring life/car, lol.

Im also hoping my cousin will let me get some pictures of his car, its an older monte, couldnt tell you what year. 383 stroker @ 8psi from procharger, slicks and skinnies, roll cage, and some other goodies, toped off with a 3in cowl hood, this thing is a beast. Still waiting on a good tune, but it should put down between 900 and 1000hp! All that power and hes ditching it for twins next year!

Anyway some of the main concerns arnt as big of an issue anymore, such as gas mileage and exhaust noise. As I finially got me a nice DD, its an 01 Monte carlo, silver in color, Ill see if I cant get some pictures up soon!

Sorry all for the long post just wanted to update everyone and get some ideas.

I wont lie to you. A cam install on the 3.8 SII is not easy. You could probally do it in a weekend, but you'd be pushing it. There are alot of things about tearing down that motor that will **** you off.

First off, when you do the install, just drop the k member and drop the whole motor out. Its so so much faster than trying to do the install in a space like that.

When you do the cam swap, I recommend doing a complete rebuild when you do it though. Parts only, the complete rebuild costed me around $2k parts only, not including the cam or heads.

I really dont know what all you have done to your car, but a cam swap needs alot of research done to be done correctly. If you did do the cam swap, i'd most definately invest in a set of heads while you were in there. Yet again, more money, alot more money, but its a ton of hours of labor invested.

Heres my master cam list for the 3.8, do some research and see what you think about it. Im personally running a N/A cam with nitrous, but it works out well due to the powerband I wanted. I have the ZZP GT2 cam.

MASTER CAM LIST
In order from lowest to highest intake duration.
Generally, in order by higher powerband, less streetability as you go up.
Legend to NA Cams...
(M) - Relatively mild. Decent power gains, good streetability.
(SS) - Street/Strip, good power gains, fairly lopey, less streetable, may throw codes.
(R) - Racing or stroker use. Great peaky power, poor streetability.

And about the cat, all it takes is going over a speedbump to shift that 'stuff', I dont know what to call that honeycomb material inside of it, but once its broken inside its useless, you can either remove the cat and empty it out and then reweld it up there empty, or just buy an aftermarket cat.

Yes it would be. The only reason I gutted my cat, is because I can weld, and I have a lift to do it all for free.
