Car is HOT!!!
Alright, I just got a 99 Camaro SS from my girlfriends cousin. I was gunnin for a WS6 but I was offered a good deal that didn't include me financing a loan or anything. So on my way home today on the freeway, the radiator hose shot off. I know it overheated but I didn't know because the temp gauge went below cold a minute after driving (also simultaneously, the idle felt high and the car pulled at stoplights). What the hell could be wrong? I plan on changing the thermostat and coolant (actually water) later tonight BUT what do I need to change so the temp gauge works? Please help me, this is a crappy way to start off driving an LS1 powered car.

damn, some one needs to learn how to maintain a car, the rotors are prob done with, temp gauge senors go bad and make it run funny, get it replaced and runt he orange dexcool through your system half water half coolant...no coolant with *** your stuff up...

Yes The reason I am leaning towards the temp sensor is because obviously its with the cooling but you said the idle was high. Thats a side effect of the temp sensor going out. Change that out before your O2 sensors start crappin out.

Coolant loss = brake problems I guess..

I just bought the car, so for sure I am going to bring it back up to where it should be at. About the possibility of coolant sensor going out, would it still work right now? I just threw in a new thermostat and some coolant. I tested it and the temp was around 200 but then it jerked the car at 45 mph so I brought back home. For sure I am going to hook up an Actron Diagnostics up to it tomorrow, but can I get that sensor at an Autozone, or Kragen type local store?

[QUOTE=graffiti oner] (also simultaneously, the idle felt high and the car pulled at stoplights).
didnt he just say that whenh brakes it pulls him??? Or maybe I read that wrong and thought he said he was being pulled off to one side when braking...not ignorance, just a missunderstanding...
and common I know wtf im talking about when I say coolant, Im replacing my water pump next week myself...*** hole...

I just changed the Engine Coolant Temp Sensor and got correct readings of the temp and it doesn't smell funny anymore. For sure it surpassed 200F before I shut it off at 218F. The only thing the diagnostic read was a code P0118 (Engine Coolant Temp Circuit, High Input), I dont know what the hell that is.:banghead: Also, the little radiator light is on in the dash, dont know why if I got coolant topped off.

Tomorrow's agenda is to take the radiator out and get it flushed, check hoses because coolant was dissappearing somewhere without leaks, and remove/check the water pump (by the way, how can I tell if the pump is bad).
