Honestly the best swap I've seen in to a Chevette was a 4.3l V6 with t03 turbo. That thing flew. If you want to stick with 4 cyl, I'd go with nissan sr20det. If you've got the cash, an rb26dett in the chevette would be a real head turner. Just watch your rear shock towers.

LS1 with a T56 good fuel economy and will that thing fly...i reccommend a rear end swap and a nice tub job to fit AT LEAST a 275/60/15 back there to even think of hooking...you run a BFG Drag radial and a stock ls1 and t56...11's mid to low is very POSSIBLE...with the right gearing i say GM 10 bolt with 4:10's will do the job

The Grand National 3.8L turbo engine would be the best engine for that car... I know you don't want a V6, but that engine is the best.

I know a guy that swapped a old caprice 3.8 and did it up into a chevette it reqired major modification to the oil pan, etc. The car was damn fast but you couldent stop the thing.I would recommend a brake upgrade as well.He actually put a cowl induction hood on it and chevette SS stickers.

A GN power plant is actually easy to find. The 1986- 1987 Regal 3.8 turbo is the same car as the GN without the paint and bucket seats. It's an easy swap, and you'll get great mileage, because the engine will hardly work at all to get a chevette moving. The best news: It's fairly easy to make a GN go 9's. And the GN/regal is a full frame car that weighs 200 times what the chevette does. Only problem you'll have is traction.

That's why you go looking for a 1987 regal 3.8l turbo. act like you don't know what a GN is. You'll find one in a junkyard somewhere, with no frame left behind the rear wheels.

Theres not to many and most people fix them considering the frames on the monte, cutlass and GP are all the same it would be no problem. I have yet to even see a regal t-type in the yard.
