so how accurate is this desktop dyno of urs cuz i already know AFR did a build with a cam with less than .7" of lift probably meaning .699 and 13:1 compression on a 406 and it made slightly over 600 horses with the same intake manifold. So lets say all else being the same i still have 1.5 points less compression than that build and it slightly had over 600 horses. Im not saying its not "close" it should be high 500s but i dont think im seeing the 600 horse mark. BUt hey i guess ya never know. Kinda rear end gear ya think i should run arch? 4.56s? Guy who had this top end before me had it on a 357 instead of my 406 and ran a 10.7 in a 2800lb chevelle with 4.88 gears. I have a 406 so i was guessin 4.56s but hey ur the chevy OG

I haven't tested it, but some guys on nastyz28 did and they were within 5% which is the same as say going to one place for a run then to another since no 2 dynos will give the same reading

ya well im still runnin 3.73s but i dont wanna change these gears (since its a 10 bolt) and just plan on runnin that gearing till it breaks or if i can save up quick enough for a 9"/12 bolt then ill get 4.56s

Hey Arch i almost have all my parts now so the next step is machine work

Rotating Assembly Balanced - $175
030 Over - $100
Head Drilled For Steam Holes - $40
0 Deck - $125

Total is $440

Now i was planning on getting some splayed main caps (decently priced on ebay)
so i asked the machine shop how much it would cost to drill the block for splayed main caps (its a 2 bolt block) and have it line hone/bored -$325

So including the main caps im probably looking at another low 400 dollar figure doubling my machine work costs. Now im asking you do you think i should fork out the extra 400 + dollars for the splayed caps. Im guessing you are going to say ya since its gonna be a pretty heated set up. No point in really asking i guess just wanna see what ya say. Also what power rating is the stock 2 bolt 400 good to. If i get it splayed also an approximate power rating. Thanks Arch

400 block get the splayed they are notorious for cracking, also 325 now or a grand later to redo everything when a cap comes off

I like to err on safe, I would do a mockup with pistons and heads with some clay to make sure you don't have an issue (would suck if you start the engine for the first time and all the pistons havehit the valves)

I know that. I just want to know block wise will there be any clearance problems with a 3.8" stroke rather than a 3.75. Would save me some cash since that would make my **** 0 decked and a few extra cubes.
