Free - Cold Air Intake Mod

I Opened up the bottom of my airbox so that it gets a good ammount of cool air pushed up into it from the airdam. I also added a K&N Filter. Being that I live at 7000' elevation, this mod really gave me back a lot of performance up here in the thin air.

However I'm noticing that the portion of the filter over the slit in the bottom of the airbox is getting dirty REALLY fast. Has anyone else had this problem? Is it something I should be concerned about? I took some readings with my laptop and a carchip sensor and saw a HUGE increase in Airflow and decrease of intake air temp.. I love the mod, just hope that I'm not sucking up too much dirt with this method.

As a side note, I'll block off the bottom of the airbox and put the fram filter back in and take some sensor readings again and post pefore and after Airflow and intake temps if anyone is interested. (Will take a while though, the carchip sensor is back at my folks place).

Mine get's dirty real fast as well, but I also have ths whisper cold air intake under there. I'd just clean the filter out. I have a K&N as well and you can buy kits to clean them.

I heard that it doesnt help that much and your better off getting a ram air intake....or you can make your own.

I have the ram air kit myself. If it does help it'll only be at speed.

a regular ram air intake has actually been shown to lower power (it picks up hot engine air)

Well the air dam pushes air right up between the radiator and condenser, so i'm assuming its getting a mild ram air effect when I'm on the highway. And the sensor was indicating a lot better airflow, and most importantly lower temps. Either way, it costs nothing to remove that strip and open up the bottom of the box. The K&N was fricking expensive though.
