Question Gas in my Camaro

When the car is off, it'll show a little over a half tank of gas. When I fire him up, it'll shoot to E very fast fast. Is it the gauges?

What year is it? I'm pretty sure mine sits at E when the key is off.

If your not getting any reading it could be your Sending unit.

bad sending unit, bad connection in the wiring, or bad gauge (bad sending units are common though)

if you don't want to pull the tank take it to a shop you trust and expect a $800 bill minimum

replace the tank (I would pull it to check before buying parts though)

Its not an issue with the baffles...just about every F-body I know and have ridden in does that- as far as it dropping to zero sounds like a short somewhere since it shoots down as soon as you turn the car on and energize everything.

also fyi if u need to get to the sender, you can easily cut a hole in the rear deck to access it, instead of dropping the tank.

sounds redneck but its quite simple and saves countless hours, not really knowing anything at the time i did my fuel pump in under an hour

but if it's full and goes down to half something is wrong (when I drove the cars with a full tank they never went far)
