HELP! 97 Camaro, V6 to V8?

lol ok, Check it out, ive been told by many people that its not possiable at all to swop engines for a 93-02 camaro from v6 to v8. But ive seen it done! or atleast i think i have. A guy had a 99 camaro he said had a 3.8 in it. Well he said he took it to a shop the week he bought it and had a 5.7L ls1 droped into it. He also made it standard 5spd (not 6spd) from an automatic. Now this is all just by his word of wat he did. i didnt know the guy and i didnt know if he was just BSin me lol.

so i was wondering if it were possiable, cuz i have a 1997 RS Camaro With the 3.8L II and auto transmission. I want so badly to swop to a v8. 5.7l or even bigger like LS2 maybe. And change everything to standard transmission, 5 or 6spd. Preferably t56 6speed. and give it a 3.55 posi rear end lol. it whould be easier to just go buy another camaro with a v8 already in it but this car i have was my first car and its just got too much centamental value. My car is paid off and now im getting a loan for about 4 grand. If it where possiable to change all that out, i whould like to take my budget of 4k and put it towards my new project car u could say lol. I have thought about just hopin up the 3.8l v6, like borin it, puting a small cam in it and makeing it a vortec with twin turbo, and leaving it automatic and putting a shift kit in it. but its just NOT a v8 and i wont ever have that monster sound lol. So does anyone know if its possiable or any advice for me cuz i sure whould appreciate it. thanx

There is a lot more than just the engine and tranny that has to be swaped out, Its a lot of work and a lot of money to be done. But it is posible if you have the time and resources.

If you aren't going to do it yourself I would forget about it...It can be done but you'll have so much invested that it won't be worth it in the end.

You hit the nail right on the head earlier when you said "or would it be easier to just buy another car" -thats your answer right there.

And don't worry- when you buy a real V8 car, you'll forget all about your first car. That whole sentimental feeling goes right away- you'll grow out of that don't worry.

If you were to pay me to do the swap I would charge you about $10,000 in labor and be a bit low compared to a shop

Like stated earlier, it can be done. But it will probably cost just as much, if not more than selling yours and buying a V8 car.
I am doing an lt1/M6 swap into my wifes 3.8/A4 car. The only reason that it was worthwhile for us to do it was us picking up a wrecked 97 Z28 for cheap. We only had to come up with a few parts due to the front end damage (radiator, a/c compressor, K-member, and alternator accessory bracket).
I hope to have it up and running within a couple weeks.

and your doing the work not paying for it to be done. Sometimes it can be worth changing, but simply because you can do it, and want to do it, it will still cost a small fortune, but it's fun to me

Dont forget you'll need a new K member, front springs/shocks, PCM, wiring harness, gauge cluster and dont waste your time and money unless your going to swap the rearend too (a rearend with LSD that is). Oh, and if you are gonna put an LS1 into a 97, you'll have to mod the intake system too cuz 97's came with LT1 v8's not LS1's

Is it possible?...of course, worth it?......nope.

Not necessarily. The v6 autos come with the same 4L60E that the Z28's and SS's come with. However, if its a 5 speed, then yeah, you'll need a new tranny too.

And the $$$ just keep adding up.....
