How do you stage your Camaro?
I am going to bracket race my 96 Z28 with a 4L60E auto trans. How do you guys suggest I stage the car, I know I cant use a transbrake and farting around in front of my house I cant keep the rear wheels locked and stahl up. Do you guys leave with the throttle or do you have any tricks or sugestions. I have drag racing experience Super Comp Dragster, but the stock door car is new to me. Thanks.

play with it a bit, stall comes in just before the rear tires break loose. An auto is the best drag racing trans you can get especially if you have fast car (if your car is fast enough you physically can't shift all the gears in the quarter, and no human can shift as fast as an auto trans) every car and track is different, you'll have to play with it at the strip to see what rpm gives the best results (I have been to one track and launched at 2800, then came back and had to go to 3200 to get the best times)on the last yellow go, don't floor it (unless you like losing and smoking the tires and looking like a dufus)ease into the gas, and again play with it until you find exactly where you can apply full power

Ok thanks Im not yet ready to put a new converter or trans just yet I feel I can run the Wednesday night stuff for a while. But as you know consitacy is key do you find your cars own happy spot say2800 rpm and watch the tach then focus on the tree or has anyone rigged up a mechanical throttle stop that you can release. I am going to order a set of MT et streets, so a stock LT1 shouldnt spin on a good track.

You should be able to leave under full throttle at the track even with stallin the car up. If its a decent track there should be enough traction there that a stock LT1 won't break the tires loose. A couple chirps just as you leave is the fastest you can be on street tires so I would go with that.
Best of luck to you- as in stagin- some people stage shallow, some stage deep, I would just play around with the car and see how quick it reacts.
Another easy tip- if you do happen to break the tires loose, just unhook your front sway bar and that should help considerably.

another thing is put the seat upright and move a little closer to teh wheel (part of the reason real race seats are uncomfortable in a street car is they are upright)it helps your reaction times a little bit

Great sugestions I'm taking it out this wednesday night and I'll try both stagging techniques. I plan on dropping the air to about 14pounds and Sac raceway is usually pretty sticky. Thanks

if they are radial tires don't go below about 20 psi, it won't help traction, may slow you down, and will make the car a handfull at speed (front tires I like to over inflate so there is less in contact just make sure you lower the pressure before driving home)

Oh yea thats Sacramento Off Road Park I mean Drag Strip. I dont how it is in a door car but in my dragster the left lane was a hand full. Big bump about half track and in the shut down you hit three more pretty good ones. At a buck 70 it's a pucker'er. And at night with no headlights it,s fun trying to find an exit road. Nice pass was that motor or nitrous? Hey by the way I'm looking at dot drag tires M/T make the drag radial and the et street wich is better. I dont drive on the street (trailer).

I'll look into the Hoosiers, I didnt know they made a dot drag tire. I was concerned that the street ET was a bias and I have radials up ront and it might make the car handle funny at high speed. Hows the Infinion Wednesday night deal have you raced it? I have raced there Summit ET sieries in my dragster and thats pretty good. Wednesday in Sac is 99% rice.
