Installed the flowmaster

OK guys... i bought the flowmaster and installed it with the magnaflow cat. It sounds pretty dang good for a v6. As i've seen on a few forums, when i go to race, 4cylinders wont do it... they think its a LT1. One guy even asked why I dont have Z28 badges.

The first night was absolutely horrible and i almost took it off. Sounded like a dirtbike to say the least. I was embarassed to be driving it. The next day it was MUCH deeper and better sounding. Its been two weeks now... the muffler is starting to "break in". When cold, it can be raspy, but after 2-3 miles, sounds very good for a v6. I've been getting alot of compliments and a ton of headturning when i downshift and the muffler "growls" as a friend said. I had a flowmaster on a 350 z28 i had and it took about a good month or so for it to break in... the v6 is starting to sound close to what the 350 did. Yes, there is rasp at 4-5k rpms, but can't help that.

HP gains are little... 3-5hp at the most. I wasn't worried about HP tho. I'm not going to beef up a 3.4 when i have a 402 (396 bored) in the garage.

I'm glad i went against the majority and bought flowmaster instead of magnaflow.

Once i get my equipment together, i will post an audio clip of it. Video cameras do not do justice.

EDIT: One question... for those of you that have the dual tips, what did you use to hang the passenger side tailpipe? Obviously since its a v6, it didn't have hanger there originally and the tailpipe doesn't have a tab to hang it off of. I'm thinking of using a 2.5" clamp and a universal hanger. Right now, it is as tight as i can get it and the tailpipe stills falls down a little after every ride.

Congrats saving money. As for a hanger, yes, universal hangers will work fine.

Why is everyone on this site such a hater on Flowmaster for the 3.8? I had it on my first 97 and on my current car and it sounds awesome. I get TONS of comments on how my car sounds.

yea i dont even have a bracket for both sides its just hanging on the one hanger and it works fine, they set it up to just use that one hanger cause the flowmaster i got was for the v6 so they knew there was only one hanger but i personally really like the sounds of my flowmaster on my 3.8 and ive never heard it on the 3.4

agreed - the majority of members here seem to be anti-flowmaster and pro-magnaflow. Every other forum said go flowmaster for sound and i did.

I will try to get a recording done saturday. I won't have my studio equipment at home until then so it will be a few days but i promise i'll post something.

.. What other forums are these? I think flowmaster sounds okay, but sadly I think its the worst sounding for a 3.8, and I know its probably the worst flowing (not including 3rd world companies). If I had the money, Id take a borla.. but being as I have magnaflow, Im biased.. Ive heard flowmaster on my buddies 98, and its not bad at idle, but I dont like how it sounds. Maybe its just me and my taste.

Indeed, ANY site will tell you its the worst to put on a 3.8l v6...unless u read on mustang forums. I dont even like the way it sounds on V8s its just a cheap exhaust that any muffler shop sells as to why so many have it and seem to like it.

OK... i'm having a dumb moment. Went to parts store and got a universal hanger, then realized that the tailpipe doesn't have the tab needed. I have 2.5" clamps (which is what i was told by a friend to use), but i dont see how to use a clamp and the hanger together...????

this is something very obvious, but i'm not figuring it out. Anyone got a pic of how they did it?

You fabricate.

Make a piece of bent metal shaped like an L... and find a way to hang it, or weld it, and use the bent part underneath the clamp around the pipe to hold it... Sounds ghetto, but Ive seen it done. Otherwise think of somthing.. Im sure you could figure it out.

alright.. i figured out the hanger... i wasn't being very observant. I ended up cutting the rubber into two small pieces and shortening the metal plate.

Anyways... I finally got some of my equipment home. This isn't the BEST recording, but it is good enough. This is uncut, unedited, untouched OTHER THAN fade out at the end.

BUT... i'm not allowed to post a URL after 15 posts. So... i'll have to wait.
