Motor Swap

I just recently purchased my first camaro, a 1987 with a 2.8 MPI motor that's junk. I've got a decently hopped up 350 in the garage on an engine stand. I am looking for all info that I can get about what I need to change in order to make the motor mesh with the car. Thanks

you need a trans that matches upper and lower motor mounts, radiator and fans, possibly need a driveshaft depending on trans you go with

3rd gens can be found so cheap now it might be cheaper to just sell your 2.8 and find a 3rd gen with a sbc in it already...but i know how attached people get to their vehicles (im one of em) but that would probably be the "smart" choice.

and the same stuff has to be changed, the cooling system is not up to the task of a 350 (they barely cooled the low powered 305)

plus he already has the v6 car, if your going to do the swap don't look for a v8 car unless your too lazy to do the job the right way, any time you do an engine change you should have the trans rebuilt, cost ends up really close either way

it's not normal, you may have had the heavy duty cooling, or been lucky

Am I going to have to change any suspension to allow for the added weight or will the 2.8 springs and such be fine? Also, I'm looking at getting a 700R4 with a 2600 stall for it. I plan on doing the car on a very tight budget, seeing I bought the car for $900, I'm going to see what I can make on a poor mans salary and enginuity

the 2.8 springs will lower about an inch or so I wouldn't worry about it unless it becomes a clearance issue the 700 may not handle the power unless it's an aftermarket, the converter may also be too low for a 350 depending on cam

V8ers actually buy 6cyl springs as drag springs for better weight transfer. I still think its too much trouble but like i said if your attached then your attached, good luck.

I really don't see what the trouble is that you speak of, its just a little bit of good old elbow grease, a bunch of chices phrases, time and money. The car is going to be carburated also if that takes away from trouble aspect. But thanks for the luck.

No no i just ment that things dont just "bolt up" which is the way i like it. I feel you tho man just gotta do what you gotta do, down the road, hopefully a long long time away since i just got done building my motor if ya didnt catch the thread, i plan on doing an LSx swap (been reading the mags and jesus those motors get crazy #s with relatively mild cams/compression/ good driveability, gotta love the new LS7s 12 degree angle heads ) but anyways keep us updated always nice to see a 3rd genner doing his thing since they seem to be a rare breed (least compared to 4th genners) so once again good luck, and good choice on the carb if you donno i swear by em

see I like the "trouble" it's what makes a car your own bolt on parts are just too easy they don't require thought
