Need more Power-1983 Z28

if its all original, you should still have the computer controlled quadrajet carb. that cars kinda works hand in hand with the factory distributor. If you switch to a plain aftermarket carb, you should also swap out the dizzy to an aftermarket of non-computer controlled one.
It is unlikely that you will get a 305 to perform good enough for you to be happy with it.
You could build a mild 350 on a budget that would be around 400 flywheel HP with an assload of torque .
9.5:1 Compression
Vortec heads (upgraded valve springs)
Performer RPM air gap (for vortec heads)
Comp 262H cam and lifter kit
Comp Roller tip 1.6 rockers
holley HP or demon 650-750 carb
Vacuum advance HEI distributer
Shorty headers/ 3" catback
Take out 3 series limited slip carrier and a set of 3.73's

plugs and wires, just get a good set of name brand plugs (autolite bosche, delco, ngk, or champion) and a set of msd wires, if not using boost or nitrous go ahead with the platinum they last a bit longer, and do offer a little better performance
