Please tell me you are kidding. Your opinion is wrong.
EDIT: After re-reading your post, I realize that I initially read it wrong...For some reason I could have sworn the word stock, was before y-pipe. Sorry for any confusion. :-)

its cool, i didnt see the post till you edited it. just to elaborate, good headers, 3" or so y pipe and w/e after that will flow pretty much as well as true duals and be WAY easier. thats where you get the biggest benifit with a single pipe setup is the conveinence on a late model 4th gen. if you have an older car tho true duals all the way!lol

I am gonna disagree with you on convinence though. I order a set of true duals from Texas Speed, and they literally slid right together and clamped perfectly. No problems whatsoever. The headers, though..That's a different story.

alright well they are pre made true duals that have prolly been tested many times before put into production. go to an exhaust shop and tell them you want true duals is another story for sure!

Example using a 3inch pipe. R=1.5 Rsq.= 2.25 X pie = 7.07 X 115cfm = 800cfm. So 800cfm / 2.2 = 363 hp at the crank without loss from backpressure. Also take into consideration that the pipe under your car is not straight, so you will lose some flow with that also. You also don't want to big of exhaust, this will rob horsepower due to poor scavenging.(This is an airflow characteristic describing how air is moving through a pipe to an exit point. Heated exhaust gasses actually improve due to some back pressure. Actual amount is`hard to say unless you have a dyno to compare.)

I think a lot of people go with what they hear alot and assume its the best thing. A lot of people new to horsepower hear 'dual exhaust' a lot, so that means its got to the be the best right?
Same thing happens to people when choosing camshafts and on older cars, carbs. "If a little is good, then a lot HAS to be better." You can take your SBC Camaro and throw on a 750 cfm carb with a .550 lift cam and try and drive on the street. Sure, it will sound really mean sitting at a redlight, but the Camaro with a 650 cfm and a .450 lift mild lope cam will run all around it on the street due to the fact that it makes USEABLE horsepower.
In the end, true duals might make more peak horsepower at the very upper limit, but a cat-back designed for the car will make a lot more useable horsepower and torque for you that you will be able to use.
I don't have dyno tests to back it up but I felt that my car had less low end power when it had the open exhaust than when the muffler was in there. It sounded cool and turned heads, but it didn't seem to make the power.
So in the end, don't be in such a hurry to have the loudest Camaro out there, loudest isn't always fastest...

Well, I had it done....
I just got a custom true dual setup with bullets over the axle from Lethal Performance in San Antonio. Its 3" piping from front to back. Although it took a lot longer than they anticipated (I had to go to SA 2 days in a row), and it still needs some adjusting (its squeaking under the car somewhere - a heat shield I think)....it sounds INCREDIBLE. I never realized how much my Flowmaster sucked until I got this exhaust put on, holy sh*t.
This only being Lethal's 2nd car to have the TDs over the axle (and the other one wasn't lowered), it took them a while to get it to fit snug up under the car....and there isn't much clearance between the rear end and the pipes, but the install looks extremely clean. It doesn't hang down low like dumps, and the bullets are right behind the exhaust tips.
If anyone thinks that dumping TDs before the axle might be a bit too loud / harsh, I'd definately recommend this setup.

The guys there are really stand up fellas. Since it was such a pain in the @ss for me to get this install done at their shop, they offered to give me a free basic tuning using HP Tuners, free installation of a new A/C tensioner to replace my squeaking one (I just have to buy the parts), and on top of that, they gave me $100 off the bill.....makes it worth my time & gas money.
