New Exhaust/Headers

Hey, alright I need everyones imput on this. As many of you know, I plan on getting new headers and exhaust next month. I am going with a 3" Magnaflow catback system for sure. I had also planned on getting Pacesetter headers, as I hear those will probably be the best for my money. Im thinking Im gonna have around $800 to spend approx., maybe more, but I would like to try to keep a little extra left over (need money for install, and I might want to get some other stuff).

The cheapest Magnaflow I have found is about $360, with free shipping:
http://www.magnaflowexpress.com/shop...-15620-12.html

I found some Pacesetter headers on ebay for $227+$15 for shipping
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Exhau...spagenameZWDVW

I was thinking of just getting the basic ones, and maybe getting them ceramic coated afterward depending on your guys' imput. First off, does anyone know how much it costs, and are they going to get discolored anyway?

I was also wondering, is there a certain type of headers I should get like shortys, or mid-tube to have the exahust fit up just fine?

Im just trying to learn more, and if anyone knows of a link or somthing that I can read on them, let me know. Thanks for the help.

If your gonna get a turbo you don't need to get headers.. (pretty sure)

SOMBirdV6 12-08-2005 06:45 PM

rumbler.

You can get the Pacesetters (black painted) for $207 at FTPP.net. But if I were you, I'd just save up the extra now for the ceramic coated at least. Magnaflow is a good choice, they sound nice, aren't as loud as some of the other choices out there, which is something not everyone likes.

If you dont mind answering, why do you suggest ceramic coated?

The 3" and headers should fix that a little bit ;)

I actually decided because I want somthing that sounds nice, and has performance. This is my favorite by far.

NoRiceInside 12-09-2005 02:41 AM

black painted are really dumb. the "coating" will wear within minutes and the heat radiating from them well heat you engine and kill performance. ceramic holds heat much better and will not allow it to seep into your engine or engine bay. its so worth it.

paarman97maro 12-09-2005 02:49 AM

What about if I find someone who does ceramic coating... would it be cheaper that way? What would be a decent price to pay for it?

If all else fails, ill most likely buy ceramic coated ones... Do you have any links to cheaper ones? Im just trying to save myself a little money here, I dont come across this too often.

it's normally a bunch cheaper to buy them done (is also more relaible since they don't get handled as much before hand)

paarman97maro 12-11-2005 02:32 PM

Does anyone know if I should get short/mid headers? Will I run into alignment problems with either?

archemedes 12-11-2005 03:46 PM

mid, and good headers will align fine

paarman97maro 12-11-2005 05:36 PM

and by good I hope pacesetter applies? :D

digiphaze 12-14-2005 09:56 PM

I'm a newb here. But with the extra exhaust flow from a turbo, why would not need better headers? Does the turbo supply you with a specialized set?

Yeah, I think youll need a custom set depending on where you mount it... I think.

2Poor4Z 12-15-2005 03:53 PM

unless its a rear mounted turbo, whihc i have never seen done a v6.. then the turbo actually bolts to what is called a turbo manifold.. which replaces your headers.. its basically a set of headers with a flange on the end to bolt up the turbo

SOMBirdV6 12-15-2005 04:02 PM

6 Attachment(s)
these pics may help on a turbo v6 setup.

2Poor4Z 12-15-2005 04:10 PM

hmm looks liek to me that turbo would mount in front of the motor.. and would use stock manifolds or any set of aftermarket headers really.. no need for a turbo manifold there

SOMBirdV6 12-15-2005 08:19 PM

If you have a 2000+ V6 it has the tubular manifolds which should do fine for a turbo setup unless ur lookin for like ALOT ALOT of power. Then you should get some custom ones made for that setup.

paarman97maro 12-20-2005 08:54 PM

K guys, I would like everyones imput on this, I just need some help on where to get my stuff from. I can get my magnaflow for 359 from many sites, so thats settled. I have decided to go with ceramic coated headers from pacesetter, I just need to know if anyone has any good sites to get them from. The cheapest Im finding them for is: $338.71 at http://ftpp.net/V6/Exhaust/v6_headers.htm . Im not sure wether shipping applies.

yup, when I looked at his in the 7-9psi area he was makin 345rwhp off that. Not bad at all if you ask me.

paarman97maro 01-14-2006 07:27 PM

Well I should be getting the money next week sometime :)... Im getting my exhaust off ebay I decided, and my headers from http://ftpp.net/V6/Exhaust/v6_headers.htm.

Yay! :D

3PointSlow 01-16-2006 03:12 AM

Be prepared to wait quite a while for your shipment. I have done business with FTTP.net, and twice it has taken 3 weeks or more for me to get my part. I'm still waiting on something I ordered on December 27th. They do have a good V6 selection, though. The other 2 times I've ordered from them, the timing was average or slightly below. aybe I just got unlucky twice?

what did you order?

3PointSlow 01-16-2006 03:54 PM

Badly needed spark plug wires (MSD 8.5's). They took way too long to get there, so long in fact, that I had to go to NAPA and get a set. They came 4 days after I bought the NAPA wires, which I should not have had to buy. Right now I'm waiting on some heat wrap tape for my wires that are near my headers.

Wow, when I had my 3.4 Josh always sent out the parts as soon as I ordered.

3PointSlow 01-16-2006 09:54 PM

Yea, I had the same experience with the first few parts I ordered from him, but after that....

It's okay though, the heat wrap isn't vital right now. I do plan on doing more business with him in the future. Possibly a whole cam kit in a year or so. He's got a great selection of 3.4 Cams.

archemedes 01-17-2006 02:25 PM

is he doing this stuff on the side, or full time? If on the side or alone it takes a while to get caught up. If you are in a hurry never order online

paarman97maro 01-17-2006 03:59 PM

Yeah, I dont even know when Im going to get to do it, so Im not in TOO big of a hurry... Im just going to get the stuff, and do it sometime within the next couple months.

Don't know if it's on the side or full time (I think on the side) but I do know he's the sole owner.

paarman97maro 01-17-2006 06:44 PM

Question:

I noticed that they have header bolts for sale, and I know it would be a good idea. Just curious what the avergage price for these should be, or is $48 an actual decent price? Do you guys think I should pick some up (Im guessing I should), and how much should I be paying?

3PointSlow 01-17-2006 07:09 PM

I opted for the stage 8 locking bolts, and they were worth it. I don't had/have to wrry about them backing out, or re-tightening them after the install. it's a pretty decent price.

paarman97maro 01-17-2006 07:17 PM

$48 is a decent price? Im guessing stage 8 is just a higher quality? Sorry, Im not real familiar.

archemedes 01-17-2006 08:11 PM

stage 8 is great they are gauranteed to never loosen

paarman97maro 01-17-2006 08:13 PM

Thats a reasonable price? Do you think Id find them cheaper anywhere else?

archemedes 01-17-2006 08:14 PM

it's reasonable

3PointSlow 01-23-2006 08:45 PM

Have you got them yet? I'm still waiting on my heat tape from last month.

paarman97maro 01-23-2006 09:04 PM

I havent got my FA money, I should be getting it today, if not by tomorrow, or ill be pissed. Im going to order the stuff this week though.
