on and off ses light.

Twice over the past month Ive had an SES light come on, and shut off the next day. Once turned off while I was while I was driving, and again a couple days ago when I started it up the next day it was off. Is there anything that sticks out that the problem could be? What the hell would cause a light to come on, and shut off randomly? I keep thinking it might be an 02 sensor going, but is that what happens when they start to take a ****?

Also, do your codes get 'saved' somehow? For example, could I go somwhere, or have someone scan my car, and can they find out a list of codes my car has thrown, or a certain previous number of them?

It could be P172 and/or P175 codes which are left/right fuel trims running rich. Mine has been doing that same thing and I am having it looked at by the guys who did my headers and exhaust cuz if there is an exhaust leak, it could be running rich. You might have the same problem because it is intermitent.

You mentioned an O2 sensor, that could be it too. The next time it throws the code, take it to an autoparts store and ask them to run it on a code scanner too and that will tell you everything.

Keep us updated.

Yeah... I did that with my last code I got... Im fairly convinced the guys there are ********, and are in no desire to help, but just be ***-holes becuase they HAVE to scan for free. I was planning on taking it there also, but it shuts off before I can... Thats why I was asking if they save.

I have a good feeling its from my exhaust leaks, and I thought that could be it... If its doing readings, the conditions could be changing, causing it to run different, or give me a code. I really need to fix up those damn leaks

mine is doing the same thing, i think my car is running rich, but i have had my car scanned, and it was the EGR, we replaced it, and i still came on so we got another used one and cleaned it all up, it lasted for a day then the light came back on, so if its the egr, then im not to worried about it...

yes they save... i believe its like 50 starts. if you run your car 50 times without it coming on, then it gets cleared. Im not sure of the exact number but i know its a lot. So, you dont need to have the light on in order to have it pop up on the scanner.
