Oil pan gasket

Hey guys

Been reading around about the how to's on changing an oil pan gasket on a 3.4L. Everything I've come across so far is telling me to raise the motor. Is there any way around this? Or if not, is there any way to do it without a hoist?

Thanks.

there is physically not enough room to get teh pan past teh crank in the stock position, there is not a safe way to do it without a hoist, but a hoist can be rented from many good parts stores (most car quest and napa stores will rent them)
