ok ive got a question.

Im looking for a bare 350 short block so i can build a 383. now i don't know if the 67's had a 2 bolt main or 4 bolt main. also, it may be diffrent on my car since it was origionally a straight six. now if they did it right i should be able to check to see if the block i have in there now is 2 or 4 bolt. But i don't know how to do that so how would i check wether its a 2 or 4 bolt main???

pull the motor and check then if your already there just start rebuilding it.lol. or the easier way would be to pull the oil pan while the motors still in. and then have fun getting it back on cause that really sucks.lol did that answer your question?

i pulled the oilpan on my car without problem and put a new gasket on. just drop the exhaust (was really easy on my car) and it should be cake. but i guess a 1st gen may be a bit different

man....as easy as it is to pull the motor out of 1st gens. i wouldnt even mess with tryin to check with it still in the car. you'd prolly save yourself a lot of hasle if you just pull it out. thats just my opinion.

also.....if it is a 2 bolt main, you should have it splayed for 4 bolt main. havin that done is stronger than a factory 4 bolt main. it puts some of the strain on the walls of the block instead of all the strain on the bottom of the block.

a lot of blocks have the same number, no matter if it is a 2 bolt or 4 bolt. hell, even this kid i know has a 350 4 bolt main block, checked the number it goes from like 68-80 and can either be 2 or 4 bolt and the number is the same one for a 69 DZ 302 block.lol

2 bolt of 4 bolt it doesnt matter sure a four bolt is better but it really doesnt matter unless u will be pullin over like 500 hp its all about torque thats y really only trucks come with 4 bolts. unless u plan on puttin a blower on it doesnt matter beleive me my dads 23 tbucket has 400hp and would pull the wheels right up and it was only a 2 bolt. no worrys dude

in trucks it was back to early 60's, in cars yes '69 was the first, and they are mostly gone since they had a tendancy to crack (gm changed something in '69)
