The only true domestic I've owned was a 1986 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme Brougham, 2 door. I rebuilt a 350, 650cfm holley, and a TH350 tranny, with shift kit. The only complaint I had was the door hinges. I'll buy another one of those.
The other domestics I have owned, are technically Mitsubishi powered, 3l v6 Grand Voyager, with disposable tranny, and a 1988 2l 8v Mitsubishi/Dodge D/Ram 50. Now that was a great little truck. Couldn't kill it, and just recently sold it. I loved driving that thing.
Only other cars I have owned are either Toyota Camry, or VW's. I've owned 9 Rabbits, 2 diesel, and my wife has a 94 Jetta. Now they have had their problems, mostly just routine stuff. Timing belt, etc.
I can't really say I've ever owned a lemon. Even my Grand voyager was a pretty good van. I replaced the head gaskets myself, but it had over 160,000 kms on it by then. Also did a tranny, but again, over 160,000 kms.

Thats what people do with BMWs. So I dont know what your getting at your build quality is no better. There are more domestics on the road from the 80s then anything. Hate to break it to you but that tranny in your beemer is a GM. Better go swap that out. The 3800 is HANDS DOWN one of the top 5 best engines in the world. The problems with balancers and what not being loose is from neglect on the assembly line. 3.1 and 3.4 gaskets are common and do **** up all the time. Those motors have also been replaced for the most part. The cavy and sunflower are not made anymore. Your living in the past get over it.
.D. Power and Associates rating of 2005 least dependable vehicles.
* problems/ 100 vehicles.
1) Kia 397
2) Land Rover 395
3) Mini 383
4) Volkswagen 335
5) Isuzu 331
6) Daewoo 318
7) Audi 312
8) Suzuki 292
9) Jeep 289
10) Saab 286
Six of the top ten selling vehicle are American and of those three are made by GM, two by Dodge, and one Ford.

on that note.. i wonder how hard it would be to swap the I believe its the 4JZE (correct me if I am wrong) from a 1990 corrolla into my truck..becasue damn push rod is just .. hi ferio burning on the side of the road hi!!

What does pushrods have to do with your truck starting up? Your the moron who who went randomly replaceing parts like a total idiot. A 1990 corolla is a heap of crap. If you buy a truck its expected you will have a pushrod engine. Judgeing by the way you talk about cars and engines. , you know **** all. Probibly get oil changes done at canadian tire. BTW whats a ferio?
congrats on that new car

What? That was the most reliable car built in the early 90. Where the hell do you get your information from? Read a book or use google or something or reattend school because you obviously lived in a cave since 1985.

"The 3800 is HANDS DOWN one of the top 5 best engines in the world"
I dont know about that... maybe in the top 25.... The only GM motor I would think would make the cut is a pre-87 V8
Off the top of my head I would go with the 5 most reliable being
4AGE - Toyota 1.6 DOHC used from 85 - present in one version or another
22RE - Toyota 2.4 4Cyl ( I have seen these motors with 700,000 KM on them)
B16 - Honda 1.6 Vtec
Nissan 2.4L (dont know the name) but one heck of a long lasting motor
pre-87 GM V8
you are welcome to disagree, but there is no chance that the 3800 series motors are anywhere near as reliable as these.
