You can check some other forums, (sorry chad) but I have seen them go for $500.

I know its a lot to swallow at once, but think about it this way-

aftermarket ignition systems- $200-$300

opticrap- at least $150, thats for core only- $300 for the entire thing

So you are close to $400 already, another couple hundred and you have the delteq. Plus the peace of mind of not having to sway out another opti again in another 20,000 miles or less.

Just my opinion, I will be converting to the Delteq as soon as funds allow...

hey guys my car hasnt been running for at least a month now.For some reason i
have a ignition problem and i cant figure out what it is.I just brought a brand new opti ,ignition mod, coil and the ignition switch. My car is still not firing.I scanned my computer for codes and came up with 1 #16 ...the thing is i checked every wire and grounds to starter ,battery and the junction box and even swapped parts like the coil and module.I used a voltameter to check for voltage, ground and the signal from the computer at the module and it checks out good so what the heck is the problem.....i still cant figure it out can somebody help me please one thing i did notice which is weird is the oil pressure stays on zero and it barely moves when the car is cranked. If i didn't have oil pressure would that prevent my car from starting?

yea i would make sure the PCM is actually good like Arch said, a lot of people go through so much junk then come to find out theyve been working with a crap computer the whole time. it happened to DNA383 on his Iroc, cause they welded on his exhaust with the battery connected. sent up through the O2 sensor and fried a small part of his computer. might pay just to take it somewhere to have it looked at professionally, but see what they can do that you cant first. good luck man, problems like these suck!

I'm going to have to disagree with you here Arch- a while back a buddy put my driver valve cover back on and pinched the oil pressure wire. It read pressure for a while but once the heads got hot enough the wire melted and shorted out and the gauge suddenly dropped to zero and the car was still running just fine.

I took a crap about the size of a basketball since I thought I might have toasted the motor but after some diag we solved the problem.

It might be possible that you got a junk opti- I have seen it myself. I would perhaps look into swapping it out for a new one and see if that doesn't solve your problem..

well the opti i replaced was sort of new because i took it to a shop and had them put a new cap and rotor and they just put a old dist on and it solved the problem...so when i had the exact same problem i assumed it was the opti so i brought 1 brand new.....another thing is ive been reading that it could be the timing chain could be worn out and jumping the sprockets ...which throws the timing off...or does the opti have to be on a certain way..i mean does the #1 cylinder has to be a tdc

The opti should only go on one way. The dowel pin has a keyway in it that allows it to only go on one way. If it didn't slip right in then you probably put it on wrong.

there is supposed to be a safety (at least it says it is in the service manual) that shuts the engine down at 2 psi (btw major damage occurs at 5 psi) but there are 2 different readings one for the pcm and one for the gauges aren't there?
